I COULDN'T DO IT!

I thought I was through transitioning. I thought I was ready to continue relaxing. I was in the BS store to get my relaxer and supplies, but I couldn't do it. I thought about what I've gone through just to get to the point I am now. I also thought about my posts in the transitioning thread and my own threads. I just can't see myself relaxing again when my mind is still strongly fixed on being natural again. I have tried to relax 3Xs and each time there is a strong desire to not do it. I am back on the transition wagon again. I think it is for good this time because I froze in the aisle and could not even pick up a relaxer box. I ended up leaving with some Motions leave in conditioner and some ecostyler gel.

I did a cherry lola treatment to see if I could stretch my relaxer. My curls popped and I was so shocked. My hair never reacted like that before. I think my new found knowledge will help me be a successful natural. I got tips like this from you ladies here. Thank you for your help!

Good for you!!! I have made one year this month natural and I am not turning back. There are so many people that after watching my progress, decided that they are going natural as well. One even went ahead and did a big chop to begin her natural journey. There are few major points that I always considered throughout my transitioning process that helped to keep me focus. One is that whenever I feel like sporting a straight hairdo all I have to do is either get it pressed or I can use a flat iron. However, I found that a good blowdryer can do the trick for me as well. Two, I love how strong and thick my natural hair is. Three, I am 100% chemical free and I find that my hair is growing quicker and stronger. I never experienced this when I had a perm. I will share one little tidbit with you. My sister introduced me to Darcy's Botanicals and I must say that I have NEVER used a product on my natural hair that works so GREAT! Darcy's products keep my hair moisturized without weighing it down or making it sticky. With her products, I can comb through my natural 4b hair like nothing. This is especially great because I can retain my growth. I hardly lose any hair when I comb through it. Way to hang in there! I feel your struggle. I was there, have been there and will probably be there again throughout my transition journey. This is my second time going natural and I can honestly say that transitioning is difficult. I believe becuase your presented with two different 'hair worlds' - right dab in the middle of being straight and natural. The first time I went natural, I stretched for a few months got braids and then BC'd. I eventually relaxed again becuase I wasn't knowledgable about caring for my unrelaxed hair. Thank goodness that I found this site becuase during the time during this transition when I felt the earget to relax, I may have. But during those times I came here (as well as youtube) for insipiration, and an in the meantime fix and the feeling passed.

Although, IMO, BC'ing is a much easier road to natural texture, I realize that it isn't for ME this time around. I really enjoyed my length and didn't want to part with it. I'm pretty much pass the half way mark - more of my hair is natural then relaxed - and it has gotten easier now that the relaxed parts are towards the end of my hair. So I say to you, hold on and keep fighting the good fight if that's what your spirit tells you. And above all enjoy the experience!

i'm glad i read this thread. every time i think about relaxing, i think about how far i've come, and how much thicker i want my hair to be, and how, if i crank that flat iron, i can still have the straight hair i'm used to. i know chemicals aren't 100% necessary... and that's what's kept me from throwing in the towel.

OP, you could try this (and everyone else that's on the fence): every time you get the urge to relax, take your fingers and scratch your scalp! give yourself a nice long soothing scalp massage. you know how they say, don't scratch before a relaxer? scratching will force you to have to wait before applying, plus all that scalp stimulation will help with growth

I am transitioning too so it's good to hear you are back on the wagon. I know that I want to be natural so I keep telling myself I may as well get it over with and stop delaying it. Seeing so many other ladies her do it make me know I can.

Cherry lola is a conditioning treatment for the hair that reduces frizz and moisturizes the hair. I did not come up with the recipe on my own. Check you tube and put in cherry lola. I used a different recipe. I used conditioner, baking soda, and liquid amino acid from braggs. The original recipe used yogurt, baking soda, and amino acid. I would not want to waste my yogurt in that way. However, using the conditioner works too. My hair was so moisturized and curly. I'm almost 4 months post, so I'm mostly relaxed, but my NG went curl crazy! It was easy to coax into a pont tail to let it air dry. My hair loved it and my hair smelled so good. You rinse it out after an hour. It was so hot here, I considered it a steam treatment.

Congrats on your decision to stay on the transition journey! I'm natural and I'm still trying to learn how to properly care for my hair. What I mainly do is co-wash every other day and use shea butter and IC gel and put it into a pony tail or some days I leave it down but thats about it. I need to get a regimen in order.

Oh every few months I do henna treatments as well..Yep Yep I love my ayurvedic stuff!!!!!!
