I can't see my new growth on the outside of my hair....

I have noticed this about my hair. But if I pull my hair open and you can definitely see the hair growing in and really feel it. But on the top of my hair not really. The top of my hair just looks a little under-processed, but basically straight. But under, I can feel and see defined waves.

Could it be my hair grows in a different texture on top, or is it because the top of my hair gets combed, brushed and scarfed down?

I was afraid it wasn't growing on top for a minute....

My hair is the same way. When I put my hair in a ponytail my edges and suff are always smooth and there is no newgrowth (and this is at 12 weeks post relaxer) but once you make a part in the middle of my head it's a jungle in there. Newgrowth everywhere. I guess the rest of my hair just grows faster than the edges (outsides):ohwell:

When my hair must be combed to the opposite side in order to see any new growth. I can feel it though.

I've been noticing this about my hair lately too. And I do think it's because of what you said, brushing, combing and tying it down. I think it's because we are basically doing what we can to lay it down. Especially when you're wearing a protective style. I wear my hair tied up and I noticed that the top of my hair and the back both lay down smoothly. While the inside has plenty of noticeable burgeoning growth.
So I don't think it's anything to be concerned about because I do believe it's still growing in those areas. HTH
