Put a nice detangler in yur hair so that it will comb through with no problems. Surge Plus 14 is supposed to be a good detangler (and growth stimulator).
Also, try shampooing with a good detangling shampoo. I used Creme of Nature detangling shampoo and it was great! Afterwards, I could comb through my two textures (back when I was transitioning) with little problems.
I second the rec for a better conditioner. Also what kind of comb are you using? Make sure it is a wide tooth comb. I use my shower comb to help detangle when I have conditioner in my hair.
umm.....its not advisable to get another relaxer when you're not due for one. and relaxing doesnt smooth out hair.....it loosens the curl pattern. even when you relax it again, it wont get untangled. you have to look for a conditioner with "slip". and CO washes also help. what type of conditioner are you using right now?
I would do a good deep conditioner with heat with a good moisturizing conditioner. Then take your time and detangle with a wide tooth comb and a detangler. Surge was mentioned as a good detangler but I use Biolage detangling solution and motions nourish leave in condtioner. Keep us posted.
Try using a wide tooth comb like a Jilbere shower comb. I always detangle under running water as I'm rinsing the conditioner out of my head. The slip of the conditioner will help glide the comb thru your hair.
My hair has gotten seriously matted in the past to the point where i had to cut bits out. then i discovered aphogee and ORS Hair mayo. those two saved my hair. i think when the cuticle is degraded the hair will matt uncontrollably. thats why i no longer use motions relaxers.
I could comb my hair with a comb when it's wet if I didn't mind a lot of breakage. INstead I simply finger comb to clear big tangles after using a conditioner that gives lots of slip. Currently I'm using Herbal Essences for Damaged hair or Kenra MC. Please note that some of us just don't comb when wet!
Also I was texturized after being natural for about a year. Due to underprocessing I simply could not comb my hair when wet and honestly had to wash my hair in braids. I re-relaxed my whole head and things got much better. If you think you are underprocessed (first application did not produce the right texture) then this may be your problem too. If not then just be extra gentle.
My recommendations is to use the Jilbere shower comb. I've used Jilbere and K-cutter, and I prefer Jilbere. Also, try combing through while your in the shower with the aid of water. The water helps me to detangle my hair. I can comb much easier while the water is coming down on my hair while I'm rinsing out my conditioner. A detangling shampoo is good. I too have used Creme of Nature detangling shampoo and find it works great. I now have confidence with the Jilbere shower comb to use other shampoos besides the CON detangling shampoo. I've been using the Elasta QP conditioning shampoo and the Intense conditioner and I can comb the conditioner through my locks and comb while I rinse out the conditioner and comb after I come out of the shower. Also a leave in detangler that you can use after the shower is a great suggestion that was made earlier. This works very well too. The only one I've tried is Mr. John's detangler. It works, but I stopped going to Mr. John, so I don't have any other detangler recommendations. I love Surge and I'm sure biolage is great too. I hope this helps! I know how challenging this can be. I share your pain. I've been there and I don't even have a relaxer.
Your hair sounds very similar to mine. Parts of my hair are underprocessed and I have to be careful to avoid breakage.
This is what I did yesterday when I washed my hair:
Pre treated with a mixture of:
Distilled water, Jamaican Black Castor Oil, Shapley's MTG, Surge, and regular castor oil (regular castor oil helped make the mixture less runny)
Shampooed with Oster Aloe tear free shampoo (a shampoo for horses)
followed with Biolage Ultra Hydrating Shampoo (very moisturizing)
Didn't feel like deep conditioning afterwards so I applied Eqyss Mega-Tek Rebuilder (another horse product) for 5 min and rinsed.
(Usually I use Keracare Humecto Creme Conditioner in the tub--very moisturizing and detangling for my hair, but the Eqyss was a new purchase)
I gently pressed the excess water from my hair
and applied BBD Stretch Creme (without heat) and then Matrix Biolage Ultra Hydrating Balm
then, gently combed with a jumbo rake (seamless) comb.
I air-dry, so I parted my hair in four sections and plaited each section
after plaiting I put a little L'anza Urban Elements Hair Polish on the ends to further help retain moisture since I don't do frequent trims.
Through each step, my hair felt soft, tangling was minimal and my hair was not difficult to comb. I also comb my hair in small sections.
Hope this gives you some ideas and help with your problem.
My hair gets super duper tangled.Even after a good deep conditioning,My hair doesnt want to act right..worse when i need a touch-up.
the only thing that worked for me was a good creme rinse and detangler.I suggest miss keys 10-in-1 creme rinse. Also biolage daily leave tonic for a great detangler.Patene light detangler is good...but biolage gives great shine and leaves your hair soft.
Everyone has already given you great advice. I think you should wash your hair in sections. DETANGLE your hair before you even get in the shower. Plait each section and wash each one separately.
