I AM A HAIR CHALLENGE *FAILURE*

Beginning of this year I started 4 challenges. APL by Dec. 09, Thicker Hair Challenge, Chlorella, and Protein is my friend. They were all pretty similar. At first I was all for it! I took my Chlorella everyday! I swore it was helping, but I kept detoxing because I didn't realize eating pizza in the middle of a detox doesn't do a THING for you. I just CAN'T be healthy! I ate protein bars and eggs like there was no tomorrow, and then I stopped... I was measuring my hair and keeping up with it... then I got dun dun dunnnnnn *A WEAVE*....

And sadly I've had it sense the end of August, now it's December. Isn't that trife? And who knows what it looks like under there lol! I just feel like a complete challenge failure. I stopped EVERYTHING, deep conditioning, buying products. Maybe that's a good thing because I saved some money? But I started spending it on other things so that doesn't help! I was doing so good and as I look in my cabinet with my FULL container of Chlorella I wonder, am I the only failure? Does anyone REALLY make it through the challenges beginning to end diligently? Maybe I should just fail my way through the rest of 2009 and just start over in 2010. :wallbash:

I think it's best to make your own personal challenges and don't sign up for anything you don't think your going to stick with-so you don't feel like a failure, or if you fall off, so what? maybe it wasn't for you

I'm hair lazy so I just keep my own challenge going, 'Get up and do your hair before you lose it all' when it gets to that point :look:

I'm more worried about the state of your hair with leaving the weave in that length of time than any of the challenges you have fell off.

I hope it's ok , remember DETANGLE it well before letting it hit any water.

I agree with Irresistable, don't feel bad that you fell off the "wagon". Set your own standards and goals and try o stick with them and if you fall off, it's ok just get back on. Try to committ yourself to a self hair challenge that YOU really need for yourself that way you will be more inclined to stick to it. And plz don't spread yourself thin meaning stick to a few, not many.

In regards to the weave, I think you will be ok. Hopefully you have been washing and conditioning at least every 2 weeks. I have left my weaves in for 3 months at a time with no issues only hair growth. But please, please, please, like Irresistable stated make sure that you COMPLETELY detangle BEFORE washing your hair when you have your take down session. I would also suggest you pre-poo after you detangle. HTH

Dust yourself off and try again. IF at first you don't succeed try and try again. Don't sulk in your sorrows, for they will not go away, stand up, stand strong and face another day.

Just a few words of encouragement.

I was suppose to LOSE 15 pounds, I GAINED THEM. I hate it, but I am like When I am ready they will go. :) SO smile & chin up!

I suck at them too, you´re not the only one. Maybe the thing is that you choose vry long challenges, try with something short you can stick to-

I was about to say the same thing all these other lovely ladies are saying! I thought it was cool at first to join hair challenges, but I soon find out that you can't really set your hair goals on a timeline because everyone's hair is different and has it's own needs and interests. Now I'm like, whenever I get to APL, it's ok :yep: I used to get miffed that I would see others meet all their goals and I would be like what happened to me? I'm doing everything right? What's wrong with my hair? :nono: It would be depressing and I would feel the need to give up, which is not how I want to feel about my hair or devalue the accomplishments I have already achieved. Your ultimate goal should be to achieve healthy hair.

My new personal challenge is not to join any challenges for a while.:ohwell: That and to stop buying everything that somebody else raves about. I have more stuff that doesn't work than I do that does work.:nono::ohwell:

Detangle before I wash it? But then my hairs dry I usually detangle it in the shower.

This is so true! I wish someone would have told me to detangle my hair before washing. As soon as I took my weave out, I got in the shower and cowashed while trying to detangle with my shower comb. My hair became matted together and I had to use a tiny needle while my hair was soaking in a deep conditioner to get it out, didn't work and I lost soo much hair. It was the biggest set back I've had. I would also suggest detangling before washing your hair, but if doing other wise works for you, then that's okay too.

Don't get down on yourself, set a very simple regimen for yourself and simply focus on sticking to that.

Its really interesting that everyone says detangle your hair before you wet it after a weave, when I took my pixie braids out after them being in for three weeks I still detangled while wet saturated with conditioner and it turned out fine, I guess it might be different if we're talking about 4 months worth of shed hair.....

Me being natural, I saturate my hair as Im taking my braids out....much easier for me....but thats single braids....Dont beat yourself up...

But when you take the weave out, make sure you have some help detangling cause I get irrirated easily....and thats how I lose hair

You definitely need to detangle the hair before washing. If not you will end up with a tangled, matted mess. If you've been moisturizing your hair under the weave the process shouldn't be so hard.

yes!!! detangle with a good slip/moisture giving conditioner and some oil first before washing. Not on dry hair .....of course, just don't wash without fully detangling and getting all those shed hairs out or you will end up with a matted mess and major set back

not detangle before wetting, detangle before letting it hit plain water or washing. Exactly......She can wet with a conditioner, water wont be enough and could make it worse/washing definitely will

eta: I took for granted when I said detangle before letting it hit the water that it would be known to detangle with something -not dry hair :nono:

my bad gotta be more specific

I make my own challenges for the most part. The only challenge I committed to in 09 was APL 09 because I knew it was achievable. I contemplating a BSL in 09 challenge but it's hard enough to stick to my own healthy hair practises without the added pressure....& I keep it ULTRA simple.

Don't feel bad. We fall down...but we get up LOL!

This is exactly why I don't join challenges on boards. Sometimes I just don't have it in me to do what a challenge entails and I won't do it. Not to mention sometimes you have setbacks or something.

Don't feel bad...or I will have to feel bad too. I think I failed every challenge except Bootcamp. lol :lachen:

The good thing about Bootcamp was that I was already doing those things...so I couldn't possibly fail. I'm in the one month, end of year challenge now...and that's cool because I already intended to take pics in December after my length check in November (curious to see what MT does for me in 4 weeks...)

So, don't feel bad. I know your hair will turn out beautifully if you follow the advice of the LHCF women who have shared with you their ideas.

HHG!!!

I have Hair-ADD and my hair is just fine. Just be consistent with a few things and you'll be okay! You don't have to get on the bandwagons. I wish you luck for the rest of 2009 and 2010. You will reach your goals!

LOL, girl you're clearly not the only one. I had to come on here and remember the challenges I signed up for that start now/Jan. 2010. I've been kinda lazy too, but it's not much to do with my hair in the winter months. I can be a little relaxed with my routine since I'm wigging it. Don't worry, you'll get back in the swing of things.

And you'll probably have a TON of growth when you take your weave out. Definitely post pics!!
