human - hands down. I have human wigs I've owned for 7 years. Some synthetics can last you a while too if you take care of it.
I prefer human 95% of the time.
It depends on the quality of the wig, the style and how often you plan to wear it. IME, the human hair ones shed and thin out. Most of the regular ones from the BSS don't have that great of quality human hair on them so they end up looking scraggly after a while. I don't think they're worth the $$ most of the time. I only buy them if I can find a great one for a good price.
The synthetic ones will hold their shape and style the whole time you wear it. Human will fall with rain, humidity, etc. So you will have to do some styling. I have a few human hair wigs in my arsenal in classic styles that don't require much maintenance. The rest of my wigs are synthetic. I may pay $20 for them and wear them for a while. When I'm done, I usually throw them out. I've gotten my money's worth.
This goes for all wigs both human and synthetic - Make sure you try it on and like the style. Some of them do look wiggy or shiny and fake. It won't matter whether it's human or synthetic at that point. If you're not sure about it in the sure, I wouldn't buy it. You'll just get it home and it'll stay in the package. Most stores will not let you return them.
