so i was sitting and sulking wishing i had a looser texture of hair (ugh yes i know i need to do some affirmations) and i was flipping through the channels and stopped on hsn because they were advertising maxiglide and i thought "hmm maybe that could work." then the guy max or w/e was talking about hair typs and he said "you know if you have difficult hair...AA have type 4 hair the most difficult hair in the WORLD!" i swear i wanted to call in and give him a piece of my mind...needless to say my self sulking went away and gave me inspiration to prove people like that wrong....world renowned hair stylist my toush...

i hate when they do that. it seems that every infomercial about flat irons and curling irons always go to the black girl and describe her hair as "difficult" Just b/c the hair is different from what you are used to does not mean that it is difficult. Try cornrowing short type one hair now that is difficult!

-Ethnic hair
-Difficult hair
-Coarse hair

when talking about our hair no matter what texture it is or how easy the hair is to manage. I heard them say that in a video where they were flat ironing relaxed hair. How hard can it possibly be to straighten hair that is already straight?

I don't even have that much difficulty flat ironing my natural hair. It's getting it to stay that's hard, lol.

LOL!! Ain't that the truth! But seriously, I think a lot of black women perpetrate the myth. Even here, we occasionally get threads like "can hair be so difficult that we have to relax." While the majority of us don't buy into the bs propagated on us, many women, especially those who don't know how to care for their hair, were probably watching and nodding in agreement. And I think "difficult" is definitely a relative term. I can't deal with ultra-straight hair that won't hold a curl; I would consider it difficult. By the same token, spending 5-6 hours a week just to do hair (those twists can be a beast!) would be considered really difficult for someone else. So while I agree that the generalization that black women have the most difficult hair doesn't help anyone, I also think he probably sells a lot of product that way... cute little catch-22 for us, isn't it?

That is what they teach in beauty school girls. Our hair is DIFFICULT.

^^ Agree (with Ronnieaj) to each her own- everyone always thinks the grass is greener and he can be using these statements for just marketing. Only thing is- as more of us get more educated about our hair-we won't be buying into that anymore.

Personally, I can't wait until all these 'stylists' are forced to stop making these generalizations. And Asian hair by definition is the coarsest.

Dont forget to add Dry Hair to that list, it seems like they automatically think our hair feels like stone or sand paper..yes our hair is naturally dryer but dammit it aint sand paper..well at least mines isntIt feels like egyptain cotton today
