what about coconut oil? it solidifies in temps under 77 degrees. so i guess int he summer you could refridgerate it, and in the wonter months it will remain solid sittin out ont he counter....
You can also use the variety of butters. Coconut and other oils was to drying for me, But when I used some of the different butters even with a cocnut oil mixture I found heaven for my hair. I have three different mixtures i use for different reasons. They all are a different texture and use and they are just like useing grease with out the petrolium or mineral oil and other chemicals.
You could also try Shea, Avocado or Cocoa butters. Shea is a great moisturiser and a little goes a long way. They all smell sweet & earthy but not overpowering and melt well, Cocoa being the hardest and Avocado the softest. Each butter has its own qualities and doing a strand test of each ingredient helped me to work out the amount to use. They also blend well with some eo's.
There are also some great shared recipes for pomades and other hair treatments in the "Recipe Forum", with instructions for making.
