Hello Everyone,
I wanted to do a roller set on my hair and I am 11 weeks post. I just need to kow the products you use, the rollers you use as well. And How you use all of the stuff in order. I have 4b hair and I just wanted to try some thing different.:yep:

Im new to LHCF, 10 months post with 4a/4b fine hair, and rollerset my hair up until 7 months. Whats worked for me is to use wwestNDNbeautyy (youtube and fotki) technique which is applying your leave in conditioner using the "relaxer method", leave it in for at least 3 hours, if not overnight. Then apply leave in conditioner, I like Ateayya method (spray with aphogee geen tea keratin, aphogee leave in conditioner and NTM leave in conditioner and a heat protect spay, along with a serum the roller set here. If you do not have any experience rolling here I suggest you start off using the Magnetic rollers which can be found in any beauty supply store (they do not require rollers, they also have them in some 99 cent stores). After a few months you'll be an expert, and can advance to using hte silver clips that the dominicans use. The best tutorial to view and learn to rollerset...to me!!! is youtubes alraines she is awsome name of video is quick roller set, in it she uses the silver clips, dont worry the magnetic rollers are just as good. what matters most is that you have a ratooth comb, roots are tangle free, hair is "well saturated with water", and how well you roll hair up to the base of scalp....and most of all you must have patience. dont worrry if you have to do one roller. over a few times, the trick is by the time you finish putting all the rollers in,they must all be secure and tight as hairs. Oh also, you better have a decent hair dryer, my hair would take 2 plus hours under a $50 dryer ,and 45 min under my pibbs $250.00 dryer. (my hair is 2-3 inches past SL). One final note, make sure that you end up with around the same amount of rollers in your hair as alraines, no matter you hair length, this is something you must strategy plot out as you section off you hair to roller set.

if your on a buget, you can put Queen helene's cholesterol on you hair, pack it very, very heavy, put on a plastic cap for 3 hours, wash out and then go to put a little leave in conditioner and set. When I was relaxer free, this is what my Latina friends, in Harlem, NY would do to my hair before, roller setting my hair...which would come out Perfect results, you would have thought I had a super duper perm.

if your roots are not that straight, after drying, which might be the case because your just learning... you can flat iron, just the roots of your hair.

Good luck

PM me if you have any questions!!!

Good advice, but this part sounds like it takes forever. Between the time it takes to rollerset, dry, and possibly do the saran wrap method, it would take you too long to rollerset, IMO. Maybe it seems that way to me because I wash and rollerset my hair very often, like 2-3 times a week. (Either a rollerset or a braidout lately.)

The secret to a rollerset when you are several months post is tension. Whether you use magnetic rollers or any other kind, you have to pull the roller very taunt. I do a "roll, roll, pull" method all the way down. I use magnetic rollers and double-prong metal clips.

Shampoo, DC, apply leave-ins, and roll your hair while it's still very wet. If it starts to dry, use a spray bottle with plain water. The wetter the hair, the smoother it goes over the roller. Detangle each section before rolling. Use a creamy leave-in and a serum OR foam wrap lotion. You'll have a beautiful rollerset and you can use a boar brush or a blowdryer or a flat iron if your roots are still puffy. I do this at night and wrap my hair overnight to avoid applying heat to my roots. I rollerset up to 6 months post-relaxer.

I want to try one too. I've never tried a roller set, even when I was permed bone straight and went to the salon years ago. Hmmm....

Great advice! ...tension, is key...your hair is beautiful and Im on my way to check out the link you posted.

GReat post, I will definitely keep this in mind, because I always end up with different number of rollers everytime I roller set my hair. Its still trial and error for me when it comes to rollersetting. The funny thing is I can rollerset anybody else's hair perfectly but can't do my own that well.

I'm 4 months post. All I do is use my leave in conditioner and mousse on each section and roller set. It doesn't take me a long time because my hair is not that long. I use mesh rollers without the brush in them and it dries my hair faster and gets the roller set even more smooth and strait. :yep: I hope this continues to work for me! This is the first time I don't feel so reliant on heat to straiten my hair.

I haven't relaxed since the 1st weekend in July so I'm about 17 wks post. At this point I add my leave in (Darcy's Botanicals Transitioning Creme) and ponytail rollerset. Now that I ponytail rollerset I'll never go back to the traditional rollerset. I get the same results doing the pony method.
