I don't know about anyone else, but my brushes seem to get really dirty after a while, the thing is, it's not really dirt, it looks like there's dust just around the bristles under the balls, I have let them soak for hours in shampoo, and yet they still don't seem to come clean, so I end up buying more and more brushes

. Also, I want to clean my flat iron, will I hurt it if I use a damp cloth, or should I just wipe it down with a dry cloth to remove the oils?

I use a thin tooth comb to clean out my brushes. I used to take a safety pin and go between the bristles to remove the lint and buildup. I then use scorching hot water and a little bleach and soak my comb and brush in the water. After soaking is complete, I rinse each off with water. Hope this helps.

A thin tooth comb will work. Sally's also sells a brush cleaner for 99 cents!! I bought one. It has a nylon bristle part on one end and a comb on the other.

I clean my combs and brushes in the sink with shampoo--usually a clarifying type shampoo.

I use the combs to scrub through the bristles of the brushes. I really scrub. The comb gets the dirt out of the brushes and the brushes bristles gets the greasies and build-up out of the combs.

I then rinse them well and pat dry and let the brushes air dry with the bristles down against the counter so the moisture doesn't mess up the base into which the bristles are in.

Hi Tiffany ~
Maybe try cleaning your hair tools more frequently. I've used shampoos and dish detergents. Both work. At one point, I was cleaning my brushes and combs once a week because I washed my hair once a week. I can't say I do it that often now, but I clean them at least once a month and let them dry overnight, face down on a towel (I read somewhere that leaving the bristles face up can loosen the chemical bonds that hold them in), so they're ready to go in the morning. HTH!

Try Barbicide you can find it at Sally's Beauty Supply Store. My stylist uses it to clean her combs and brushes.
