I just wondered if anyone can pinpoint how to avoid.

Sometimes I will take out my braids and have quite a bit of build up and a few times I have had hardly anything but I cant remember what I did differently:perplexed

Does wearing your night cap religiously to keep out the fluff have a lot to do with it or is it the frequency of moisturising and washing?

I can help! I wore my C&G braids for like a year and a half of my HHJ.

To reduce buildup in braids:
- avoid the scalp and the top 2 inches of your hair when applying moisturizers/sprays

- YES, wear your satin cap at night! You should ALWAYS be doing this, regardless of the style your hair is in! :orders: :spank: That's an order!

- When you wash your braids, apply the diluted shampoo to your scalp only and massage your scalp. Then let the water rinse it away. Once you get out of the shower, squeeze your braids to get as much out as possible but DO NOT wrap a towel around your head as any lint will adhere to your braids and be so hard to get out.

Please and Thank you , lol

:lachen::lachen: The worse thing is I'm sitting here typing with a towel wrapped around my head but thankfully its my first wash so I can get it together for next time:blush:

Thanks!

Thanks!

I have been wearing self installed yarn braids for about a month and a half now. I took my first set out and re-plaited about two weeks ago. I had no buildup.
I agree with LadyPaniolo.

When I wash, I squeeze out excess water and wrap my hair with a old, clean t-shirt. I also do a baking soda rinse once a month. I don't know if you'd want to do that, but it works for me.

Also, if you get enough new growth that your hair is long enough to twist at the roots, keep an eye on that. Don't let it twist...EVER! lol.
