I've been using oil for a month now and yesterday i realized that I might be using it incorrectly. I say this because I had oil running down my neck the whole day....it was embarassing and very uncomfortable. How many times a week should use oil? Should I put it on my scalp and comb it through (which never sems to e good enough for me) or should I put it on my hair? How do you use a hot oil treatment? After applying oil when should I wash it out? And also how do you use your hair oil? I have type 3 hair both A and B. Please Help I'm confused. Oh and also I'm getting a relaxer tomorrow can I apply sulfur 8 to my hair today? TIA

I WOULD NOT PUT SULFER 8 on your head the day before a touch up. You want to do little to nothing to your scalp the day before a touch up unless it's just to put some oil on your scalp the day or night before. As far as the hot oil treatments, I used to use them many years ago, but don't anymore.

When I used to use the hot oil treatment I would use a VO5 or Kemi Oyl applied to my scalp and hair & put a plastic cap on & then sit under a damp hot towel for 15 minutes. There are also some hot oil treatments you can buy now that self-heat so that you don't need the towel anymore. Then, I would wash out the oil & apply conditioner.

To do a hot oil treatment you apply it to your hair and put on a plastic cap. Then you go under your dryer or use a heating cap. Or you can heat the oils up before you put it in your hair. You can keep them for as long as you want to. i used to do it for 30 minutes.

You don't need to go overboard with the oils. Maybe you should experiment wih how much to put in your hair. It's best to put them in while your hair is damp, when you are putting leave ins or whatever else you put into your hair after washing and conditioning it.

I don't do hot oil treatments. I put 4 sections in my hair, then pour a little more than a dime sized amount into my hand and massage it into each section after I'm finished putting my leave in into the section, then as I'm rollersetting or putting my hair into twists I put a little more on the ends. After that I put oil into my hair very sparingly and mostly on the ends every other night... then I wash and the cycle begins again.

Also, you don't have to put it on your scalp. Some people do, some people don't. It's a personal choice, whatever works best for you.

I use wgo, cocnut oil and hot 6 oil.

And... you can put the sulfur 8 on tonight. Be very gentle on your scalp and be sure that you don't get it in the new growth. It is good to have your scalp protected and old relaxed hair protected. I usually do it right before a relaxer though...

After I wash my hair, I sometimes put my mixture of oils on my scalp and massage them in so they wont drip down my neck. When my hair is dry, I put oils on my ends almost every day and I put oils on my scalp sparingly (not a whole lot) and massage around my scalp.
I have never done a hot oil treatment. I bought the Aphogee Hot Oil Treatment but havent used it yet.
Its funny how I didnt start using oils until I joined this forum. Before, I would apply grease to my scalp

The reason I would be hesitant to put Sulfur 8 on my scalp is that I have sensitive skin & scalp & the Sulfur 8 would really stimulate my scalp when I applied it. I can only imagine the burn I would feel after having a relaxer applied with that stuff on.

I use sulfur 8 after a shampoo for that reason, but I wouldn't use it before a relaxer...but the oil use is tricky.. I used to use a lot too but for me I use oils sparingly...for hot oil treatments or as a finishing product for rollersets...I also have found that if I apply oils to my damp hair and blow dry or roller set it they are more useful versus putting oil on my dry hair..some times I mix castor oil, jojoba and rosemary..but I have found that since I condition more I don't have to use oils as much..
