Did you word that right? Are you asking if using a relaxer TWICE a year is TOO MUCH? If so, I really want to know who can a year and only relax ONCE or TWICE?

Twice a year is how long I've been stretching my relaxers. It has worked great for me!

Um... the Kid here has to relax every 6 weeks. I learned the hard way that my hair may be fine, but my new growth is RAW. Two months of careful, by-the-book stretching damaged my hair in a way regular professional relaxing never did in the 20 years I've been getting them.

I think stretching length really just depends on what your hair can handle. There is no right answer, just trial and error.

I normally only get two relaxers a year. Three at most. I get my last relaxer at the end of November and I can hold off on getting another until May when it starts to get warm.

I also have fine hair but coarse newgrowths and need to relax every 6 to 8 weeks. Stretching relaxers don't benefit me, it causes my hair to shed and break, it's a hassle trying to style it, and I spend more money on products to try to tame my newgrowths. It's just easier for me to just relax it and if you have a good stylist that doesn't overlap than it's not a problem.

I think it depends on how easy it is to manage your newgrowth with your already relaxed hair. I stretch 3 months but I'm thinking about going to 2 because of intense tangling. I have mostly 4b hair , the texture is nothing like my relaxed hair, and it's very difficult to comb.

i am currently going to 12 weeks, i have braids right about now, so that i will have to fiddle with my hair too much. i am thinking about doing this towards the end of my stretching if i decide to stay relaxed :-(

I went 10 this time which was my goal but my hair says 8. Either way I'm really proud of myself because I used to relax every 4 weeks on the dot so I doubled that my ex-hairdresser would have a coronary if she knew about this.

I personally cannot stretch that much unless I get braids or something.

Other wise, I would look a mess.

fixed it :)...........

OK. Right Im 4a/b (who knows lol) and right now I had been stretching for about 12 weeks but Im going back to 8 weeks because 12 is taking my hair out. So 8 weeks is long enough for me. I have a co worker that relaxs once a month  anytime she think its too tough to comb she relaxes.

i dont think its too much stretching. i wish i could stretch that long without losing my mind  . i'm stretching for the first time -- 16 wks

Well I'm currently at week 15 of a 20 week stretch so by the end of this year I would have relaxed 3 times (march, july, december). I 'll evaluate my results at the end of the year and see what I can do differently next year or if I should just keep the same routine.

I say just watch your hair and see how it deals with the long stretches and if it does ok I really don't see a problem withit. Good luck and happy stretching
