How much shampoo do you use per wash?

Hi Everyone,

I am still kinda new... (My third post! Yea!)

But it seems like the longer my hair gets and the longer in between relaxers the harder time I have getting my hair all clean. I feel like I have to use quite a bit of shampoo to saturate my hair enough and to even just get to my scalp. Like my hair is water repellant or something... Do you feel like you have to use a lot? Is my technique wrong on distributing the shampoo? Does anyone else feel this way?

:band2:

I think I am going to clarify shampoo tomorrow morning. I just feel like I shouldn't have to use as much shampoo as I do... I've felt this way for years and now I have a place to ask the question. Yea!

:bath2:

i dilute my shampoo with water in an applicator bottle and only shampoo my scalp. the suds and run-off clean the rest of my hair. so probably like a dollop (what is like like a half dollar-ish maybe a little more) size amount of shampoo w/ water

I use about a quarter to a 50 cent piece worth of shampoo and I usually lather three times. The first time it doesn't lather up at all I guess it's just to get some of the dirt off then by the second lather it's nice and lathery.

I braid my hair loosely in sections and gently shampoo my scalp. My goal is to get my scalp clean. The soap,as it runs off, cleans my hair. May sound weird but if I shampoo my HAIR it strips it....dunno, maybe it's just me.As for the amount,I use about a dime size or maybe a bit more. Hope this helps.

BtW your hair is gorgeous!

Yep - like Ms. Shuz, I dilute my shampoo and apply it to my scalp too. I gently mix 1 Tbs shampoo to 1 cup of warm distilled water in an applicator bottle. I section my hair in fat 2-strand twists and apply the mixture only to my scalp. I gently massage it in with my fingertips and then let it sit 2-3 minutes. Then I rinse it out. Sometimes I don't need the whole mixture and other times I need more.

HTH,
IvyS.

I use about a quarter size and I usually wash twice. Once with a clarifying shampoo and once with a moisturizing shampoo. But I only wash my scalp never my hair. HTH

Quarter size each shampoo. Clarifying shampoos are usually stripping so be careful - if you don't have tons of build up maybe just shampoo twice. Check out Macherieamour on you tube, her take on shampooing changed my whooole outlook on how one should shampoo!

Thanks for your speedy answers. I think I want to run to Sally's tonight and get a little container that is like a color applicator so I can put my shampoo in that with water and then apply it to the roots... I feel like too doing that may help me get the scales and dry flakes off my scalp better that always tend to accumulate escpecially the further away from my relaxer I get.

I have been doing this hella wrong... Haha... I would apply handfuls and handfuls of shampoo to my hair and still as I said have problems getting to the roots. It was like my hair was its own Darth Vader helmet and to really get down and in I needed to press the button to open up the helmet and see the scary man inside... Haha...

:jabba:

Thanks for the compliment on my hair Mz. Shug. It's funny... I have been doing everything all wrong and have gotten to the length I am. Who knows where I will be once I start doing things right!...

I used a shikakai shampoo bar most of the time so it's hard to say, but I concentrate on the scalp and not my hair.

qtr size depending on the thickness of the shampoo, and the thickness of my hair at the time, right now i'm stretching 14 1/2 weeks and i use a little over a qtr size drop of poo. but i'm using mizani's reconstructing poo and it's thick so a qtr drop is good.

Altogether it probably equals 2 palmfuls but I only lather once and I part my hair with my fingers so I can really get to my scalp. I don't wash my hair unless it's loaded with cones.

I use about 1/2 of teaspoon diluted w/ water and a drop of peppermint oil or rosemary oil.

I would say about a quater size of shampoo and I lather about 2 times. Before I even shampoo I make sure to plait my hair in 4-5 sections to decrease tangling and matting. The one time I didn't do it cost me (today).

Hi, I'm new too. I don't shampoo, ever. My hair can't tolerate it, I use cleansing herbs, enough to cover my entire length of hair. I hope you find what works for you.

I wash in 5 sections based on roller sets; the largest back halves get quarter sizes, the front middle gets nickel sized and the side pieces (haha) get dime sizes. One lather… Im good.

I use 1/4 of an ounce, diluted in 8oz water. I use the entire 8oz.

My shampoo has one sulfate (sodium coco-sulfate) because as I'm diluting it so much, I want it to have a good cleansing agent. I was looking for one fairly strong sulfate but not the strongest...it took me a minute to find a shampoo that met all my requirements :yep:

Usually use between a dime and quarters worth. I split my hair down the midline and apply to each half.
