I lose a couple combs full :( I'm worried that my hair may be breaking again....

Is this normal?

I just relaxed today after 5wks (yes that soon) and lost less than 100 (or a very very small amount) strands, mind you I had not combed my hair since Saturday.:)

depends on how often you comb your hair...I used to go about 1.5 weeks without combing and I had A LOT of hair in the drain. But I figured if I lost about 50-100 hairs everyday, that accumulates to 500-1000 strands on hair that I may see in the drain provided that I do wait that long to comb. Now that I comb almost everyday the shed hairs dont have time to accumulate in my head so it isnt as devastating

Ahhh, I see, lol....Come to think about it I haven't combed in days. Last time I combed was.....? I think to part my hair. I haven't straightened in weeks, so I just wear my hair in a bun with a side part. I wet it down to refresh it....

Ok, Im breathing now. All that hair made me nervous. DUH! Elle....

I honestly don't understand all of this "50-100 strands a day is ok." I mean, if the average dark haired person has about 100,000 (give or take) strands of hair on his/her head, then losing 50-100 a day would eventually lead to bald-headedness before the strands even had a chance to grow back to your original hair length. I'm sorry, but if I saw 50 strands of hair in my comb, I'd freak out. It's happened before, and I don't wanna go back. I'm fine with my few lil strands a day.

On average, it's 10 shed hairs or less. I've noticed that the more that I wash my hair, the fewer strands I lose. I'm off to wash it, now. :drunk:

Breaking out the calculator...

Assuming a person with 100,000 strands losing 50 strands a day, how many years will it take to have a completely new head of hair?

[(100,000/50)/365]=5.5 years

I lose about 3-7 shedding hairs a day and about 5-7 when I wash, detangle and rollerset.

ETA: It may b the way u r combing your hair, how do you comb it? I either comb by section putting my hand on the top of the strand and then combing from bottom to top to make sure no hairs come out. If I am washing I put my hand on the part where the hair meets the scalp and comb from the bottom up and when I comb my roots make sure that the rest of the hair is detangled. I finger comb first though to loosen any tangles...I don't lose much hair by finger combing first.

just because you dont see it in ur comb doesnt mean it didnt come out else were...hair is constantly rejuventaing itself and new straids are growing in constantly just as fast as the other hairs are shedding...kinda like skin cells...the avg person has what like 150,000-200,000 strands of hair or something like that? so losing a few thousand a month aint gonna harm anything  Plus remember they say on avg so its not general to everyone :yep:

Same here. I don't lose much at all. I detangle in the shower and I DO comb my air dried hair w/o ANY breakage.

My mother, on the other hand, loses so much hair. She insists on washing her hair in the sink, and she towel dries her hair so roughly. Even her wash technique CREATES tangles. I would not like it if I lost so much hair after washing.

Even though I never count the strands of my shedded hair, I know very well it's more than 2, 5 or 10 strands. I don't have time to count shedded hair strands.

I agree with the more washing equals less sheding part. I get paranoid when I lose hair, but it seems like the more I wash, the less hair I lose for some reason.
