So the idea of this thread came to me last night as I was doing my weekly co-wash.
What I want to know is how much does your hair cost.
When I say "how much does it cost" what I want to know is how much money do you put towards the products/services that your hair undergoes.
All you have to do is list your main/staple items, along with their prices, and total them up to give an estimate of how much the maintenance of your hair is.
Now it's your choice if you want to tally it based on weeks, months, or years.
Get it? Got it? Good!
Now go!

I'll take the wheel first:
Elasta QP Olive Oil & Mango Butter Moisturizer (8.25oz): $5.99
Africa's Best Organics Olive Oil DC (15 oz): $4.49
African Royale (8 oz): $2.99
Head & Shoulders (14.2 oz): $4.99
(2) V05 Moisture Milk (15 oz): $0.79ea
Aussie Moist (13.5 fl oz): $3.33
MegaTek: $30.00
Aphogee keratin & green tea restructurizer (8 Fl. Oz): $7.95
Gentle Naturals Eczema Baby Wash 5.5 fl oz: $5.20
Gentle Naturals Baby Eczema Cream 4 oz : $6.50
Africa's Best Organics Relaxer (regular-Lye): $5.79

Grand Total: $78.02
That's not too shabby if I do say so myself :)

Is that monthly or annually?

I try new products all the time so I can't even give a specific dollar amount, honestly.

v05 (4) $0.79
tresseme antibreakage(2) $2.69
dozen eggs $2.89
Aussie Deeeeeeep $2.89
Olive Oil $3.19

$17.51
hmm. K.I.S.S keeps money in my pocket, apparently.

I'll add in shampoo...about 3 dollars for NTM. That'll last me a few months....as does the olive oil.

So...roughly 15-20 dollars a month? Nice. :)

My hair cost me a lot. I finally tone down on the products but began wearing weaves and wigs. The wigs didn't cost much $20 every three weeks but the hair weaves is where my money goes. Since august I've have spent around $700 on the hair alone and I'm planing on buying some more to build my stash up before I stop.

Most of my hair products are from qhemet biologics that I brought earlier this year (I did reup in the summer) so that is $100, olive oil $5.99, hemp seed oil $10.00, megatek $28, megatek creme rinse $10.99, megatek rehydrant spray $17.99, conditioners $ (unsure about the amount but in total it has to be a lot, shampoo (2) $5.99 each.

My regimen is almost non-existent at this point LOL

Suave conditioner for cowashing - $1.00
Wheat Germ DC - $8
Coconut oil - $10
Devaone condition - $20
Hair Butter - $18

Total is $57 but luckily I can use those products for at least 2 months

well I just spent abt $150 in BF sales on products which will last me for atleast 1 year

so $12.50 per month on products
$18 per month on salon visits

total = $30.50

oops forgot to add salon visits ... which Ive cut down to 1 time per month (down from 2 times per month)

grand total:112.01....

all this can last about 3 months...so my hair costs about $37 a month. i think this is a gross understatement of how much my hair costs considering the fact that i have so many products that i didnt list because they arent staples in my regi...and i didnt include DC caps, spray bottles, combs, brushes, applicator bottles etc ($50)...or my weave hair (approx $300)...i easily spent $700+ on hair products in 2010...smh...but for 2011 my regi will be much simpler, i'm narrowing it down to just the staples (give or take a 1 or 2 items). i have 4 baskets of hair products on my bookcase...and imma need everything to fit into one basket by spring 2011.

Elasta QP Creme Conditioning Shampoo......$2.50
Tresemme Moisture Rich Conditioner........$3.79
Organics Texture My Way Lotion........$3.99
Hot Six Oil..................................$5.99

Total Cost: $16.27

So roughly $20 w/tax to take care of my hair. I also use EVOO, but that's already in the kitchen and I don't count it.

I am in the middle of doing math hw so the last thing I am going to do is add up my total. lol.

But i do know that it is not much/the same as it was pre HHJ. I do spend some money on products but I know what ingrediants to look for so all my purchases are smart purchases.

However I must say it's more so technique over product that has really helped my hair thrive.

I already know its pretty cheap

AO HSR- $10.00 give or take (depending on where I get it from)
HE HH -3.00
Coconut oil- $8.00 (but I buy 16oz so its lasts forever!)
Shea Butter- $8.00 (for a POUND, lasts all year)
Castor Oil- $4.00 (4 fl oz)
Trader Joe's Shampoo -$1.50

I'll rebuy the HSR and HEHH like once every 3 months, so thats $40+8+8+4(2)+3.00(4)+1.50 comes out to approximately $77.50/year. I think that's pretty good. It has definitely been technique though...individual products don't do much for my hair

@Rei; Do you mind sharing where you pick up the bolded products from? :lick: Somewhere online? Or a local BSS where you live?

What TJ shampoo do you get for $1.50??!!! The only ones I know of are Nourish Spa and Tea Tree Tingle and those are over $3.

I did this last year. The answer is 10.81 per month. That includes the products used, the cost of depreciation of the appliances, electricity, water, 4 hair cuts, and miscellaneous.

This does not include lost cost for "ditched" products, which were products and other goods I bought for my hair but abandoned. This also doesn't include my time.

I just took what products I used, estimated the time that I would use them, calculated the cost of water and electricity used for my hair, and broke 'em down. I love Excel.

I'd say that most of these products last me a good 4-6 months. Some last even longer :yep:

-TJ Nourish Shampoo and Conditioner- $3 each
-Jojoba oil- $9 I think? I've had my bottle for over a year now
-2 of Aussie Moist 3 minute miracle- $10
-ORS replenishing packs- About $9 for 6 packs
-Aphogee 2 min- $7
-Silk Amino Acids- $20 for a bottle that I've had for about 8 months

Total: $58 for six months so a little under $10 a month

tresseme curls conditioner 5-6 dollars
ecostyler 4 dollars
suave shampoo 1 (I buy a big one and it last several months..)
olive oil 4 dollars
argon oil 7 dollars
other conditioners 5 dollars (they last more that 1 month)
cantu shea butter 4 (lasts 2 months)
grand total 30 probably every other month..most months its more liek 15-20..My reggie is simple and cost efficient..

I can't even play myself by posting how much I actually spend on my hair online for the world to see...I will say that I don't spend a dime on hair stylists.
