I was just curious if I am the only one. I tried the 10-12 week thing. It was not good for my hair. No matter how many moisturizing products I put in my hair to soften the new growth, My hair gets a mess and starts to break. So I am sticking to 8 weeks, MAYBE 9 if I can push it, but no more.

I guess I just want to know I am not alone - LOL :)

I relax every 7 -8 weeks. I get between 1 inch to 1.5 inch a month so going longer than that is no the best thing for me.

Well before I decided to transistion, I could wait more than 10 but after then it starts going downhill - shedding, breakage, the works. So just to keep it happy i'd do it every 2 months. The growth was probably about an inch and I probably just needed to learn to stretch better but it's too late now, no more relaxer for me!

I usually relax every 12 weeks. But I had a growth spurt in terms of density and length of newgrowth. I went a head and relaxed at 10 weeks because I'll be on vacation next week and I don't want to be struggling through that last week while I'm on vacation.

I relax every 6-8 weeks.

My hair has been growing too fast not to.

Besides, I get breakage when I have excessive new growth.

I think if I did not like wearing my hair down so much, I could stretch it longer.

I'm on week 6 of my stretching and my hair is breaking like crazy. I can't go beyond 8 or 9 weeks. I'm going to relax next week. I moisturize daily, CW, and deep condition twice a week. I'm good for a day, but after that, I can't get a comb thru the new growth.

I went 11 weeks without realizing it because my hair was manageable but it was shedding more at the time. I try to relax between 8-10 weeks.

i usually touch up every 8 weeks or so. this month the new growth is just too much so I'll have to touch next week, which will be 6 wks. i can't even comb thru the right side of my head

I try to last anywhere between 6-8 weeks. Right now, I'm a bit over 8 weeks and the shedding is not that bad. I think that I've gotten extra growth this round from the MTG,but I really don't like to go beyond 8 weeks:nono:

I used to relax when I had a noticable amount of new growth, every 6 weeks or so. Last time I "stretched" to 8 weeks and I had to relax because the new growth was ridiculous. Washing often and moisturizing did help alot. I will stretch longer now that the LHCF ladies opened my eyes to Elasta QP Mango butter. It does wonders to soften the new growth. Smooth & tie it down with a silk/satin scarf overnight and my roots are laying flat in the morning. I likey. Just don't use too much it or gets heavy & flaky.

6 to 8 for me as well. I am just past 6 now and my hur is so crinckly when I comb that I don't think I can wait anothe 2 weeks!! I too am trying to use products that will help with the breakage, but nothing seems to work. My new growth is crazy thick! :(

I relax right at six. I get better results this way, if not no conditioning in the world saves me and my hair started to look like crap. When it gets alittle longer I might wait another week

I usually relax every 6-8 weeks. But I am going to start going for 8. This is the longest that I have ever stretched (it's on my siggy, I can't think off the top of my head) and my hair is doing okay. But that's only because I am airdrying and wearing a pony with no combing.

But yeah, I also think you should take if you are taking growth aids into consideration also-My 4 weeks is like weeks now that I am loading up on the biotin and other things.

Six weeks, max. My hair grows like a weed. I tried stretching, but ended up with breakage when my hair had been ultra-healthy before. Still peeved, but you learn from error.

I think it's how you relax, what you use and for a lot of us, having a professional do it and not doing it ourselves. Some women know how to put in a relaxer and keep their hair healthy. But a lot of women with problem hair tend to do it themselves.

6-10 weeks for me. and 10 weeks is kind of pushing it. stretching retouches is the #1 cause of breakage for my hair. :yep:

i have not had a relaxer in years but i think i am going to have to one of those who must do 8-10 weeks. i got a relaxer on 4/5/06 and i am feeling N.G. already

To give my hair a jump start, I waited 12 weeks before relaxing. HOWEVER..... now, I'm gaining growth and just checked the calendar to find out when I can relax again. I just relaxed 3 weeks ago!!!!!!! I hope that I can wait at least 6 - 8 weeks but we'll see. I tell you this is one complaint, that I'm thrilled to make!!!! :D

I relax every 12, sometimes 14 weeks. I find that the only way that I am able to stretch is by using HEAT. I absolutely must blow out my roots to smoothe them after every wash, which prevents breakage and wire-y hair. Otherwise it's breakage city... So basically healthy stretching is possible for those who don't mind using heat...

I'm a 8-week relaxer, this works well for me, I tried stretching longer but if I lose most of my hair it's not worth it.

I usually don't make it to 12 weeks but I try. I might make it to 10 weeks maybe 11 depending on the weather and how I feel.
