I wait before relaxing after removing braids?

I'd say at least two weeks. Do a protein treatment the week before.

I voted for 1 week, which is how long I plan to wait after I take my braids down. BUT, a while back I had braids for a year. I would get my braids taken down, get a perm that same day, and then come back to the salon the next morning to get more braids. I had no breakage and my hair grew alot. I definitely wouldn't recommend this, but I didn't know any better at the time and for some reason it worked for me.

I would suggest 2 weeks but no sooner than one.

I would say it depends on how long you've had your braids in and the condition of your hair after the braids are out.

When I wore braids for 4 months, I waited a full month before relaxing and made sure I did a protein treatment in the meantime so my hair wouldn't break.

When I wore braids for 1 month, I waited two weeks before getting a relaxer and I didn't need a protein treatment.

I say at least 2 weeks, for the simple fact that I had braids about 9 months ago. I had them in for 2 months, and when I say I had sooooo much new growth, I mean A LOT! I was so excited w/ the growth that I was eager to relax my hair as soon as I detangled it(w/ wide tooth comb)... I relaxed it and that was the WRONG thing to do ! My scalp was burned (after 8 minutes) and I LOST SOOO MUCH HAIR til' I was almost in tears! After I did my CO'ning and my hair had dried. It was very long but soooo thin!

I wear my braided styles for at least 3 weeks max and after 8 weeks post relaxer I relax the next day after taking my braids out. I base my scalp real good the night before. After I relax I normally just rebraid my hair back up for another 3 weeks, it does'nt hurt anything.

i just wanted to say that i used to relax my hair the day after i took my braids out and it caused a lot of damage and breakage. since i did that the breakage continued until i had to cut the perm out. i think you should wait at least a week.

My old stylist told me to wait 2 weeks after b/c she said your hair can be very porous after wearing braids and that can lead to the relaxer not taking and possible damage done to your hair.

I take 'em down, clarify, then get my relaxer at the end of the week.
