Okay, you have already applied relaxer to all the areas of your head. How long do you leave it in?

If possible for which kind of results-straight, bonestraight, texlaxing, texturizing?

Do you smooth? With a comb, fingers, or both?

The only relaxer I have self relaxed with that has not underprocessed me is TCB Naturals (not the economical size).

I normally leave it in for 6-10 min, but sometimes less, because if I have lots of naughty new growth it takes me longer to apply it.

I smooth with the same brush that I use to apply it with and I get straight hair, but not bone straight.

I am so scarred of overprocessing and since I dont care for bone straight hair, I rinse out in 5 min. after applying.

Sometimes stylist are so gung ho on gettin it super straight, I lie and say I am feeling a tingle on the scalp so they gear me up for a rinse out. I dont want them gettin any ideas like "Let me let her sit here, while I wash out the next client, etc." It gets me so paranoid that they overlook the amout of time the relaxer is on my head.

I figure what does not get straight this time will be straightend with the rinse out of perm over the next 3 years of permimg.

wow i leave mine on for like 12-15 mins! guess i'm not texlaxed...but i have a natural wave throughout...my hair must be coarse :S

Candy_C I would have to do that with many relaxers. Some don't even texlax me in the time suggested by the manufacturer. My new growth does nothing!

But, the TCB  must have a higher pH, because it gets me STRAIGHT in way less time.

OOOOh honeydew i've re-read the question. AFTER application of ALL areas my relaxer is washed off within 5 mins  i'm tired!!

You sound like me! The stylist slaps it in there in about 7-10 minutes and I leave it on for another 5. I HAVE to tell her that it is burning or she won't take it out. Say's its not going to get straight. I don't like bone straight hair and she does so we bump heads ALL of the time!

That is what my old stylist used to say. She used to freak me out with that.

I voted 11-18.

My hairdresser attempted to texturze my hair with Elucence by processing it for about 10 minutes.

When I came out of braids 4 months later it looked almost completely natural. I bought some Elucence myself and tried to process my whole head again (temporary insanity) so it would be straight. It took a bout 5 minutes to apply it all over my head and left it in for another 15 minutes, smoothing the whole time.

My hair was still curly and still has mad shrinkage!!! after all that. So I attempted to relax, and came out texturized. That's okay because I like it better then when my hairdresser did it.

For my next touch-up, I have no idea what I will do.

I'm 4a/4b I let mine process 8-10 min after application. I relax in 2 sections. I started using Silk Elements which allows a max of 22 min for coarse hair so in Sept. I'll bump my total time to 16 min AND smooth more:) :)

I also used Silk Elements for my first time self relaxing. It took around 10 min. to apply and I let it process and additional 8 min. Next time I think I let it process 10 minutes and smooth more to get it straighter too. ;)

how long does it take you all for application...it takes about 20 mins for application and smoothing for me...so I usually dont wait any extra time.

I texlaxed this time so I left it in for 5 minutes. The next time I will leave it on for 10 minutes to fully relax it. My hair is hard to relax and I always have deep wave pattern even after relaxing.

I feel bad because I do this too. My aunt does my touch ups and she is from the old school. She says "let me know when it starts tingling so I can rinse it out."
The reason I feel bad is because she is my Pastor too, but I'm trying to save my hair:p

Overall my relaxer stays in my hair for about 10 to 15 minutes tops. My current stylist combs through the roots. I love the straight look. My ends are very over-processed and frizzy due to my previous sylist. I can't wait to completely trim them off them so all of my hair is straight.

I use Mizani sensitive scalp and I'm going for texturized. I put coconut oil in it to allow me a much longer processing time. I've only relaxed my hair once and it took me 20 minutes to apply. I have to rinse out immediately. At least the back. Then I leave the front in for maybe 3 minutes.

I use phytorelaxer (Index 2)... I usually have a ton of new growth between relaxers (3 mo). My stylist just did it this weekend, and it took about 5 minutes per section (4 sections) to work the applied perm thru my new growth with a comb. Then about another 5 minutes to do overall smoothing. It came out perfect. Bone straight. I have not experienced any burning with phyto relaxer.

Me too!! I cant stand that ish!! Im not tryin to diss stylists but I dont like that at all. I wanna self-relax sooo bad, but just too scared to do so.:(

About 5 months ago, I relaxed with Silk Elements Coarse. I kept it on for about 5 minutes and my hair came out bone straight which I don't like because it makes my hair feel soooo thin. About 2 months ago I relaxed with Silk Elements Mild with a little olive oil in it and left it on for 15 minutes. The relaxer barely took the kinks out. I was so upset. My hair was still nappy in the back where I had lots of new growth (after 2 weeks I was back to not being able to comb my hair). Every since then my hair has been shedding or breaking (I dont know). I don't know if it was the olive oil in the mild that made it not relax good. I want to relax tomorrow for the holidays and I don't know if I should use the Coarse formula or the Mild with no oil in it. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I think you should use the Mild again WITHOUT the olive oil. My hair is very thick and the Mild worked like a charm. Just make sure you leave it on long enough so you wont be underprocessed again, though. Leticia also uses Mild on her thick mane and she likes it, too. Good luck, chica!:p

Well, I am transitioning but previously was texturizing. Usually I would wash it right out after applying or leave it no more than 1-2 minutes.

I use Profetiv no-lye Regular and I leave the relaxer in my hair for 12-15 minutes after application and Im texlaxed. My hair is pretty resistant but I like the wave pattern it leaves.

I pretty much have the stylist rinse immediately. I have fine hair, so if that relaxer doesn't get out of there soon it will be over-processed.

To texturize my hair I use a seamless comb to smooth for 4 minutes after application (7 minutes).

I put it on, then i go and rinse out the other things i used, then i rinse my hair... I barely leave it on for 5 minutes

For me 12-14 minutes tops. My hair gets good and straight...but not too straight, I still have some texture.
