How good is AFRO DETANGLER on groafrohairlong.com

the ONLY thing i disliked about it - first application, they suggest putting it on your hair, braiding/twisting hair up and letting it dry... then you re-apply and detangle. annoying, but it does work.

i found when i detangle in the shower with regular conditioner, then follow up with Afro Detangler i find my hair gets less tangly and is easier to detangle later with smaller-toothed combs if i'm so inclined.

my son's hair is 4a/4b and it works better on his hair than mine... so every head is different.

I've been using it for about 8 months off and on..I like it and have found nothing else (although I don't look around much) which gets my tangles out, leaving the hair softer.
I have a lot of product left in the gallon.

I looked at her web site the other day and was elated that she had replaced the germaben II (which is a paraben derivative) with a more holistic based preservative..CitroZine™ .

It's a really thick product, have not used it as a leave-in but I do intend to keep it in stock for emergencies...I'm kinda relaxed..

I've eyeballed that big jug of detangler a few times. I'm a 4a/4b too. I detangle in the shower with conditoner now and braid so sounds like it's the same thing I already do with the regular conditoners I have. I wonder if it would be good to use for braid/out twist out under the dryer...or even a roller set?

It's a good detangler. I think it's worth the price, because I only need a little bit and it makes my hair soft enough that I can comb through with ease - and I did the comb/braid/comb/braid thing the first time, and I don't do it anymore.

I mostly use it when I'm switching styles on dry hair - it softens my hair up enough to allow me to pull it apart and make new parts/detangle, but isn't moist enough to cause a LOT of shrinkage, which would defeat the purpose of airdrying in braids.

That one bottle will last me for at LEAST 2 years - maybe more, since I don't use it to mix with other things.

It reminds me of Oyin's Honey Hemp, without the fabulous smell. It actually doesn't have much of a smell on it's own.

yep totally agree, especially on my son's hair when i was letting him grow it out. every morning i just smushed a teeny bit on his hair and would finger comb, then gently pick. sometimes he'd wimper only because i was making him sit still for 5 mintues but i could detangle easily and not worry about hurting my baby.

the first bottle i bought only lasted like 5-6 months erplexed but i was using it on my hair AND his. i've decided to just use it on his hair, and that 2nd bottle is still 3/4 of the way full (grant it we're not using it this summer since i'm keeping his hair cut low). i mean he's a toddler but i used a dime-sized dollop for his hair and that would be more than enough.

And you have a whole lotta hair, too, LadyLibra!!!! I use maybe a small palmful on my whole head - and considering how much product I normally have to use, that's almost a miracle.

^^^LOL yep! i didn't have to use a lot and i'd purposely put it on the 5-section braids so i didn't waste it by using too much. but still. my hair's thicker than hades

For me it's worth the cost! I wear twists for about 30-40 days at a time and conditioner wash frequently, so a good leave-in and detangler is a must!!! I posted this question on another hair board (np) about 3-4 months ago, and requested if someone could send me a little sample to "try it out" for myself. The first sample that I got was the "old" formula. My hair hated it. Then someone else sent me a sample of the "new" formula, and my hair loved it!!!! I put it into my leave-in spray and used it as a leave-in. Only sta-so-fro comes close to doing something similar, and it doesn't even come that close. N-E-way for me it's worth the $57!!!

Beware, the smell is orange, and it has orange essential oil in it, so if you have allergies, this IS NOT for you!! Plus she has yet to come out w/ a version w/o the orange oil.

Okay, this is really helpful as I don't find the honey hemp to be that great of a detangler. But I do like it for its fabulous smell and it's not bad as a leave-in.
