Re: How Do Your Products and Regimen Change the Further You Get into Your Relaxer Cyc

I find that the furthur along I am the more moisture I need. I need to wash my hair more or switch to cowashing. I used to switch products as well. But now I think I have stuff that works well on both natural and relaxed hair so I don't really need to switch anymore. hth

yeah, I have to be more gentle and less creative with styles. Also, more water-based moisture is definitely needed. I either have to cowash everyday or spray my hair damp with a water spray bottle and go from there.

As I get deeper into a relaxer stretch, I find that I have to pay more attention to the protein moisture balance. What I find that works the best is using more protein intensive moisturizers like Cantu cream on the line of demarcation. I also use more leave ins that have more silicones deeper into a stretch while avoiding cone heavy conditioners. I tend to either A. wash more often and just wet bun or B. Wash less often, rollersetting to help straighten the newgrowth instead.

Conditioners like ORS replenishing help me more at this time since they give a little of both (protein and moisture) and its is very emollient so I get nice slip. I also use more protein products that are silk protein based since it seems to help my hair feel and behave straighter as I style. I increase deep conditioning time by 10-15 minutes and I do more scalp massages with coconut oil to keep my scalp from being irritated.

ditto...after week 10 or so, I need Super Moisture .... I co -wash daily with Humectant instead of every other day with a cheapie and rely more on home made leave ins

i am 9 months into my transition and right now i am co washing everyday. i always need moisture no matter how far along i am. but what i will say is when i got a press and curl i needed my sheabutter mix in order for my hair to feel soft and moisturized because my keracare creme hairdress wouldnt work. the keracare kept my rollerst moist but not a press and curl.

Less manipulation.
More cowashing, less rollersets/heat.
DC on the line of demarcation.

I no longer have to switch products the further I get along but I might bring in an addition or two. I tend to do my final rinse with some HE Dangerously Straight and maybe add some SAA or CHI to my DC. Depending on the weather and my body's level of hydration, I might have to moisturize a little more and maybe add in an extra wash during the week.

I have to break out the wild hair growth oil to melt down the new growth. i also have to be more careful with my combing. and I use the Hairveda whipped jelly or almond glaze to lay down those edges.

The only thing that changes in my regimen is my choice of hairstyle:

- From touchup to about 5 weeks post, I wear lots of "edge revealing" styles, like updos on straightened hair or maybe just wearing my hair straight with bumped ends and a skiny headband. I love showing off my freshly-texlaxed edges. :look:

- After week 5 to 13 weeks post, I wear styles that blend my new growth with my texlaxed hair, like twistouts and spiral sets and...I flatten or hide my edges "by any means necessary."
