Beauty IS skin deep.
It says to leave on for 1-2 minutes and then rinse off. I was curious to know whether or not everyone follows these directions for it? I've heard of some people leaving it on for like 5-10 minutes with or without a hooded dryer. I don't want to leave it on for too long and end up with my hair breaking off really bad. Nor do I want to rinse it out before it's had time to settle in and do it's job. Any tips or suggestions?

My bottle says leave on for ten minutes heat or no heat with cap on. I usually sit under a dryer for 15 mins with a cap on or use it like a apogee treatment and let it get hard then wash it out.

I googled it and I saw the bottle where the directions say to leave on for 10 minutes w/ or w/out heat. Hmmmmm......I wonder my bottle says to only leave it on for 1-2 minutes? They both look exactly the same, with the same ingredients. I hope Eckerd hasn't resorted to selling bootleg Nexxus products because I will be taking it back if it doesn't work:nono:

yes i would return it with out a doubt.:look:

Yes, I also leave mine on for about 10-15 minutes under the dryer. I only use it twice per perm cycle. I use it about 3 days before I am due to get a retouch and also the week after I get my retouch. My hair can't take too much strong protein.

I think I will use it on Monday to try it out. If it doesn't work, then I will take it back. I saved the packaging and everything, and I may just exchange it for the Rusk Smoother Leave-In and something else.

No, don't worry!!! I saw a thread about this, when I was a lurker. Emergencee changed their bottles and their ingredients just a tad. I think the 1-2 minute bottle is the latest one created. I am pretty sure Eckerds isn't selling bootleg bottles. :yep: I'll do a search and send you the link. I'm new, so I'm not too good with the search(mainly finding the threads I'm actually looking for), but I'll try and get it for you.

I found the thread talking about their directions change!!! Yea me!!! Here it is:

Unfortunately, you have the older version, but in the thread everyone says it works the same.

There was also another discussion like this about Emergencee and different instructions on the bottle. I will share again what I found out and shared at that time and give the link to the entire thread:

Re: Question: Nexxus EMERGENCEE users
I'm thinking they changed the formulation and the old directions are safe w/the old formula. I know many people for sometime have been using Emergencee w/o pooing afterwards and still were very happy w/the product. I don't think there's much need to panic. If your bottle didn't direct you to poo again your safe. If it does don't ignore it, do it!
Seng, that was what I was thinking. So I called Nexxus to ask. The customer service lady assured me nothing had changed in the formula. When I asked why all the bottles I have ever bought never mentioned shampooing with Therappe but only mentioned using Humectress before styling, while my friends have bottles that mention shampooing with Therappe, she said that they decided to be more specific. After a bit more dialog it became clear that she wasn't aware of the fact that there ever directions that didn't mention shampooing afterwards. She thought I might have an old bottle but I got mine less than a month ago, and when I described the bottle, she agreed that was the NEW bottle. She put me on hold for a bit then returned to say that previously, light shampooing was only suggested but never spelled out and that they decided to be clearer on their labels. She said that shampooing is neccessary to get the most (ultimate results) from Emergencée. I read out the directions so she'd see there was no hint of a "suggestion" to shampoo after treatment. She again assured me that the formula had not changed and that using it the way we've always done, ie without shampooing after treatment, should be fine... That using a light shampoo would help remove any remaining traces of Emergencée that might remain if one doesn't rinse well, but that it isn't necessary... Er...OK (I think)....

... Methinks that because the bottles failed to stress the importance of thorough rinsing, like say a reconstructor like GPB does, a few pple had problems with residue protein, hence the addition of the new line. I'm assuming that the cap you wear allows penetration of Emerg-agents (I made that up...), so they reasoned that light shampooing will only remove the residue on the outside and therefore the risk of protein residue problems. Just MHO.

I guess those who've never had problems have just been thorough in their rinsing. I know I spend a good 2-3 mins rinsing it off, and then just as long rinsing off the moisturizing conditioner. And finally I dunk my head in an ACV solution till I get bored.

When I do a protein treatment I ALWAYS follow up with a moisturizing shampoo and deep moisturizing conditioner after making sure to rinse the Emergencee out well. I can't stand the feeling of my hair without it. I actually read how to do a protein treatment in one of my hair books so I don't really follow the instructions on the back of the bottle. I just follow what the hair book I have states. The book suggested Nexxus Emergencee and said to leave it in for 10-15 minutes (it's considered a light protein according to the book), so it's not as harsh as some others, like Aphogee for instance.

Thank you ladies!! Especially for the links to the threads. I sure needed those. I don't want my hair poppin' off after using the stuff, so I think I will just make sure to rinse very thoroughly after using it, follow up with a good DC (moisturizing) and do an PC rinse. Thank you all so much!!

ITA with the bolded - this is what I do as well. I do tend to leave it on for more like 3-5 minutes. However, I have the same bottle that the OP has, and I got it like 2 months ago at Kmart.
