I've had 3 people in the past week ask me for a list of products for their hair. I'm such a PJ, sometimes I don't even know where to begin :spinning:. One lady in particular asked for the conditioners I use to make my hair grow ( :eh:). I just looked at her like :ohwell: you have no idea, there's more to it than that. I told my sis to just come over and look at what I have and we'll discuss what she wants/needs. She did the CW challenge this summer with me (unbeknownst to her) and her hair grew from a blunt SL cut to APL! Her hair grows crazy fast anyway.*I digress*

I usually try to give a quick, short list that includes my regimen and moisturizing products, light protein and a moisture/protein mix. Is this enough or too little info? I don't want to overload or confuse them, but I don't want someone feeling like I'm being funny style and just don't wanna tell them either. In all honesty, most days I just don't even wanna go there and it's because I have, and have tried, so many things!!

For those that give out info, how do you keep it clear and concise?

If I don't want to go into detail, I usually tell them to co-wash at least once a week and only use shampoo on their scalp when they do their other wash. I tell them about a DC and to find a good moisturizer and do it daily. The other day I had a yt lady ask me what to use to thicken her hair. I was like :ohwell:.

Urm, I know my reggie from top to bottom, and I can't make it consise for MYSELF. I don't even bother with product recommendations, because I think that different heads need different products - and I'm such a mixtress that most of what I use ain't straight from the bottle, anyhow.

I mention the process I have been using that I think contributed to my progress and then I talk a little about products. I remind them to find products that make their hair feel good and then run with those for at least a month. It is tough being a PJ and offering suggestions though. LOL I try to think about the products that I was consistent with for that month and tell what I liked about it and how my hair reacted to it.

See, me too. :ohwell:

It depends on how much the person wants to know.

Usually I give advice on specific conditions. I don't get into too much detail because i know everyone isn't as, erm... hair oriented as I am. :look:

However, I do let them know that I do a lot of things to take care of my own hair.

Give them some basic info and let them come to you if they want to delve into if they choose to. :yep:

My simplified answer is to deep condition after every shampoo, moisturize your ends (never let them get dry & brittle) and use very little heat.

If I tell them more than that it becomes too much for them to do and then they do nothing. :look:

I'll give them one of each:

Shampoo
Moisturizing Condish
Light/Medium Protein Condish
Co-Wash Condish
Moisturizer
Oil
Plus a few tips on low heat, low mani and stretching relaxers.

They can do trial and error from there. :yep: If they seem more interested or like they are willing to put in the work, I may go a bit deeper. But typically, most ppl are just looking for one or two miracle products, so giving out too much info is a waste of my time.

I know what you mean. When people ask me I start off with "I have a finicky greedy head, what works for mine might not work for you." Then I just tell them that I use all natural, mix my own stuff and that I use coconut oil and coconut milk as the base of whatever I use. That usually runs them off. I guess it sounds time consuming, but it's as time consuming as 3 minutes every 3-4 weeks to mix a concoction. I know....I'm crazy!

I say give them the basic info, like, co-washing and DCing and let be up to them to come to you if they are interested for more information.

I think it is more about routine than about products, so I only share the essential parts of my routine (DC'ing once a week and moisturizing daily). For example, I could tell them what conditioner I use, but if they only DC twice a year, it is very unlikely they will get the same results.

Most people lose interest after that anyway.

This is so true. One girl asked then in the next breath was like "It's not like I'm about to do a whole lot anyway, I just wanted to know." Well then I'm not about to waste breath. I told the lady that asked about specific products that it's more about practices than product but I'd let her know what things to look out for in the ingredients. Sis is easy. Just do what I say :lachen:
