... when You've a Bad Girl?

:bookworm: I was reading in a Black Haircare Book to treat your hair with a little extra TLC if it has had a tough week (through no fault of its own).
And I know we are not hairangels all of the time... :fallenang So I was curious about how some of you disciplined ladies modify or enhance your hair regime when you have slipped up and either:
  • Used heat more than you normally would for one-too-many special occasions, such as the holidays?
  • Worn it down a little too much for the same reasons?
  • Rushed through one-too-many detangling sessions?
  • Ignored moisturizing for days at a time?
  • Forgotten what a deep conditioner was?
  • Allowed a stylist to braid your hair or put in a sew-in way too tightly?
  • Or any other unkind treatment?
  • Fallen completely off of the wagon?!

Okay, here's my stream of hair consciousness on this:

If I have worn my hair down for a few days and it starts to get dry on the ends, at night I apply a creamy leave-in like Silk Elements creme and seal with oil, coil my hair in a bun, baggie it and secure with a scrunchie.

If I have something go wrong during a wash session like trying a new product that leaves my hair feeling dried out, my go to products for softening and managabilty are CON green poo and LeKair Cholesterol Plus.

When my hair became brittle after weeks of ACV rinses, my TLC regimen was co-washing and deep conditioning, no shampoo.

I had a bad detangling session where I had matted hair in my nape, that broke some of it off. So since then, I only wash my hair in braids and detangle in sections to prevent that from ever happening again. And I baby my nape by applying Hollywood Beauty Castor Treatment too it.

Overnight conditioner, rinse it out in the morning and apply an oil mix (ie. EVOO, castor oil)

If it happens when I don't have time to wash it, I'll apply moisturizer and seal it with oil, then I'll sleep with a baggie on my head. The next morning my hair is super moisturized and my ends always look better.

If I've got time, I'll warm my prepoo & apply it. Then I'll use the gentlest (is that a word?) shampoo I have (or no poo) followed with ORS Replenishing Pak (or Nexxus Humectress) + Keraphix + honey + EVOO. This combo always leaves me with soft, strong, shiny hair. Then I'll rinse, airdry, and wear a bun for the better part of the following week. My hair usually forgives me after that.

If I'm bad and have worn my hair out just a little too much (like over the holidays) I like to treat my hair to a steam treatment. Also, I'll baggy for a few extra days to make sure my ends don't get dry on me.

when I fall off the wagon...

I deep condition with the quickness:D .
and I also get my hair ends wet, moisturized and sealed with oil ..this seems to renew the shine and health of my ends.:)

Well, I can say that I had to do this today. :)

I had braids removed, a sew-in installed, and the sew-in removed all within 7 days! My scalp feels so tender in some places.

Today I shampooed with an SLS free shampoo, did a WONDERFUL henna/cassia treatment (using heat this time because of my hair drama), and a nice moisturizing deep condition.

My hair seems VERY happy right now. :)

I used to do a protein deep condition, but I notice that my hair does not always respond well to those. My hair's elasticity is not good after protein, it seems.

When I have been a bad girl I can usually fix it in one session. I like to wash my with a stimulating shampoo and completely smoother my hair in a moisturizing conditioner. I let that sink in with heat for atleadt 45mins and I rollerset. I pay close attention to my ends for a couple of days after that and I am back to normal.
