How do you get nice loose curls?

I'm trying to wear my hair curly for my birthday. I just got a perm on Saturday and I don't really want my hair flat and straight anymore I don't really like the way it looks. It looks healthy but no body at all. So for Wednesday (My bday) I want to wear my hair in nice loose curls. My hair is shoulder length, and I have layers and a bang in the front any suggestions on the rollers I should use? Flexirods I'm thinking the bigger ones.

bantu knots on dry hair. the more the merrier.
perm rods are good too.
i like the flexirods idea but i don't own any...
