I want to know your steps to flat ironing from wash and conditioner to finish. When do you put in the heat protectant and leave-ins? Do you have better results when you air-dry, or blow-dry prior to flat-ironing? Help a sista out!!!!
Hi Kikootie!
Are asking for relaxed or natural? I'm natural. All 4a pretty much.
I
1)Shampoo using the Crown and Glory method.
2)Add all leave ins and heat protectant and put back in braids.
3)Let dry overnight.
4)Blowdry sometimes next day. Very brief. I blowdry each section of the braid seperately and then twist the individual sections of the braids.
5)Flat iron and if I had a hard time getting the roots I will press those but not always.
*sometimes I will add a pre-treatment of eggs and mayo. My hair is fine and the extra protien is nice for it.
I'm no pro, but I've been able to work up some kind of regimen. I'm learning more and more everyday.
First, I wash, deep condition, and condition the day of.
Then, I spray Infusium, rub in leave-in, and spritz both setting lotion and heat protectant.
I blowdry section by section with a brush until completely dry.
I rub in pressing creme or oil in each of 4 sections(now experimenting with Wild Growth) and press 1"-2" at a time.
If needed, I'll rub a serum over the finished hair and wrap it tight before bed.
Then I apply NTM leave in (foam or silk) and sometimes WGO.
I rollerset my hair and sit under the dryer (on medium heat) for 30-40 minutes. I let it airdry the rest of the way.
Then I take the rollers out and appy a heat protectant to the new growth only.
I then go over each section that was in a roller with the flatiron (i only flat iron the new growth in order to maintain the curl since the flatiron would make my hair too flat).
Then I apply Elasta QP Recovery to ends and wrap hair w/ a couple of rollers at the crown.
When I take the wrap down the new growth is straight and the hair is bouncy.
By the way, my hair is only 3-6 inches all over with 2 in. of new growth and I am transitioning.
Thanks for all of your responses. Now I have a few ways to try this. More comments are welcome, please!!! One thing, what is the CROWN and GLORY METHOD?
I just started to flat iron my hair. This weekend I:
Washed and conditioned
Detangled
Added leave in (NTM or Salerm or MNT)
WGO to ends
Put in a low scrunchi and let hair airdry
Sectioned used Heat Procectant (Redken)
and flat ironed
What I did was clip each section in a pin curl so it would give me some body.
Then when I was ready to leave the house I took out the clips--and it looked really good.
Next time I will try blowdrying my hair then flat iron. Since I had no where to go right away I let it air dry.
Ok, I'm a punk because I can't rollerset, but this is what I used to do:
1. go to dominican salon for wash, condition, and rollerset
2. come home and take one small section down at a time. use a rat tail
comb to make thin (1/2) inch horizontal parting in that small section.
3. make 2 passes with my FHI flat iron set on 270 degrees
4. when I've done my whole head, rub thru a few drops of oil for softness
and shine (do not add oil before flat ironing).
5. maybe spray with Mizani Shyne to get rid of flat iron smell
Prepoo w/ cheap conditioner and Shea oil.
Wash w/ Botanoil, or Therappe.
Condition Humectress w/ heat
Spray Aphogee provitamin leave in
Put sheabutter on roots, and ends,
Smooth into a low poneytail and air dry.
Section into four sections when dry, and flat iron.
I do the shampoo part. I shampoo in 4 braids with a big cup of diluted shampoo. Then I add the Cholestorol conditioner and take braid down and comb through/rinse. It's been working really well for me.
