How do you determine if a product REALLY works??

I'm in search of a good daily moisturizer and i've been having lots of trouble lately.. its like one day i'll apply something to my hair and i'll really like it, then the next time i use it i'll want to give it to my lil sisters.

My latest trial and error is Dudley's PCA. the first time i tried it i wasn't impressed

hwell: so then i said maybe it works better on damp/wet hair and used it for my last braid out and it STILL didn't do much. Then last night i used it on straight dry hair, and it worked really well. I twisted my hair in 4 bantu's , and my hair is so wavy, shiny, and moisturized feeling!

so my question is how many times will you try something to detremine if its good for you hair???

For me, with moisturizing condits i'll try them on hair that has been relaxed within the last month (so the new growth wont throw off my results too much). when i get closer to touch up time i'll pull out the staples, LUST and pantene.

protein condits, i'll use them up no matter what!!!

with shamps, 1 chance and its do or die. CON and breakthru all my all time favs

with moisturizers, usually i'll buy a new one every two weeks

, the only effective moisturizer i've tried so far is s-curl. I prefer to wear my hair straight now and scurl is not good for the wash n set look, so olive oil has been my primary hair dress for a while.

Leave ins, its do or die as well, if it does not detangle the first time, it goes to my lil sis.

For conditioners, I'm pretty ruthless if the results are bad. One chance, two at most. But if the results are so-so, I'll give it more chances.

Tropical Avocado felt so rough on my wet hair when trying to do a rollarset I never used it again (was a first time only thing). Keracare Humecto results were okay. Not amazing but okay so I'm giving it another chance for a rollarset. If I don't like the results more, it'll be used for conditioner washes till it finishes.

Leave ins are the same: if it feels awful on, then its one time only usually (like the Fantasia IC leave in).

I don't have a specific moisturizer to use in between washes. I suppose its s-curl or extra virgin olive oil on dry hair ends. Both of these were good from the start. Actually tell a lie; the s-curl was crap at first because I just sprayed it on dry straight hair. Duh

. Then I did it on wet hair and was

I usually give a product two "chances". If it doesn't work well on my hair the first time, I try using it on damp/wet hair. This is what I had to do with Elasta QP's Mango Butter.

For conditoners, once I realize I don't like it, I'll just use it for conditioner washes until it's gone.

For shampoos, if I get lackluster results, I'll end up washing my boyfirend's hair with it - he never notices!!

Never had a problem with leave-ins (thank goodness).

I'm still having problems finding a daily moisturizer. If KeraCare has one, could someone please let me know? I'm thinking of trying one of their products.

Pandora, usually I do try to identify what my hair likes which is why I was puzzled that Pantene Smooth and Sleek and DMR left my hair dry and rough.

They contain cones and are known here for giving alot of slip (things I usually look for), but on me it was the exact opposite. Just goes to show you can still get caught even though you try that added precaution. I think its my hair's way of saying 'oh hell no, not ANOTHER thing your trying on me'

I am a cruel hair product person. I basically will buy the same three products that work for years and then try something different. For example just added infusium 23, I was afraid the stuff would make my hair dry up and break off. I have also added Nexxus Keraphix, Therapee and Humectress. I plan on eventually trying the Headdress. When a product does not work it either goes in the garbage or to some one elses home.

Butterscotch,

Keracare has a couple of daily moisturizers.. one is a oil moisturizer with jojoba oil and the other is a lite oil moisturizer.. they also have a leave in. I have tried the lite moisturizer and the leave in. The moisturizer was nice, I like to use in after rinsing the conditioner from my hair, made it soft. I also like the leave in, especially the smell. metrobeauty.com has excellent prices, especially for the larger sizes!

I have that problem with the moisturizers too Beana..I find that rotating them just works for me because each one works differently for my hair and for different purposes.

For example..I really liked the Mango Butter (I have to repurhcase more). I noticed that it worked best before wrapping my hair at night and when wearing my hair out. My Motions Oil lotion works best for the nape hair and for wearing the hair up as I tend to use a lot and slather it on..When I'm close to touch up time, nothing seems to work except for Motions Oil and Pantene light spray..Which I also love..I've also found that the Break Free only works well in small quantities and definitely not on wet hair like it claims..Okay, now I'm rambling...

I'm constantly buying new moisturizers. My hair is dry naturally and sometimes my hair needs more on some days than others..So I need to switch up. Try to find two or three that you like and try that..

okay the PCA is giving me a good feeling! Its the second day and its shiny once again. it really helped me repel the frizz yesterday (although it is not one of its claims). My hair feels really moisturized... but i womder how long this feeling will last???

Carmen rose, yeah i think i may purchase the full sized pca, along with more s-curl and mango butter, that will be my moisturizing arsenal!
