How do you BC your own hair?

Are there any ways of making the natural --> relaxed line clearer? (with me it's a natural --> underprocecessd line, so a bit harder to see!)
Can you do it yourself or should you get someone to help you?
Any methods...?

Put conditioner in your hair, the relaxed part will go straight and you can just cut off the straight ends.

That's exactly how I did it. It's very easy to see the difference in the two textures with conditioner on.

I agree with the other ladies, conditioner should help. However, when I chopped, I used shampoo. With conditioner I still couldn't recognize the difference between my relaxed ends and my new growth --- everything just looked really weighed down and gooey! With shampoo I was able to see everything because it made my naps pop! HTH.

I partly wet my hair so that I could see the permed hair easier.

Thanks for the advice.
When I co-washed by hair today I could tell the difference better with wet hair. I think the conditioner made it a bit harder, haven't tried shampoo yet.
I think I'm stalling with my BC again now though. I think I'll do it in summer... I'm so indecisive!

My hair was damp from having just been washed when I did my chop. There was a very big difference between my relaxed and natural hair (you can see an example in my "transitioning" collage in the lhcf gallery--see link in siggy) so I didn't have any problem seeing where to cut, but if your two textures are closer in appearance you may want to get someone to help you, especially for the back where it will be even harder to see.

I was thinking what I'll do when I BC, is chop the parts I can tell where the NG ends, measure the average NG, then measure out that much on the parts I can't tell, then chop that amount.

I wet my hair before I cut it. It was easier to see the line of demarcation when it was wet. It's best to use a sharp pair of hair cutting scissors. I bought some a day or two before I did the big chop. They were made by Conair, if I remember correctly, and were not expensive.

Well I guess Im kinda lucky. I got my hair colored a few weeks after my last relaxer. So where the color ends is wher ethe new growth starts. But all the other suggestions sound good. Conditioner always show the dramatic difference on my hair, water does too....
