This is my issue right now. I havent straightened in weeks and I airdry....I find it soooo hard to moisturize my hair, except the outside, when I can't comb thru it....

PLEASE HELP!

You do comb through your hair when it's wet to detangle after conditioning and after a leave-in, rignt? If so, there is no need to comb through your hair again. Just apply moisturizer with your hands and fingers and work it through. It doesn't have to be perfect.

I use a moisturizer out of a spray bottle.

And a oil out of a spray bottle-totally no manipulation!

Which moisturizer do you use? I've been eyeing Asha's Green Tea....

Really? When I do this, I dont feel that it is enough...:ohwell:

Wet your hair in the shower to loosen it up. Massage in a little conditioner and don't rinse it out.

I was just at the point of not being able to comb thru new growth, but it was time for me to relax the hair anyway

To loosen I used CON Creme moisturizer with Tea Tree and it worked pretty good. Also Garnier Fructis long and strong leave in is good.

What Isis said. I have found that less manipulation, less products, less "stuff" done to my hair has caused it to be the healthiest and longest ever. I use to feel like you do, always had to be doing something to my hair, putting someting on it or just had to get at every single stand all the time, but I got over it and I'm glad I did. Just try doing less and see how it works for you.

Less is more!

just slap the moisturizer on and move on. try to put some moisturizer all over your fingers and then finger comb your. it's worked for me in many occasions.

I dont ever comb my hair when I moisturize. I just put globs of the moisturizer in my hair and work it gently through the hair and ends....then i seal the ends with oil. Im sure its hella tangled, but it still gets moisturized. I sometimes keep one braid, that I wind into a bun. Depending on how lazy i feel, i may moisturize with the braid in, or i may unbraid it. Either way, the hair is getting moisturized. I literally try to comb only once, maybe twice, a week.

Bump, bump bump!

I have started using a cream moisturizer and I totally feel what ElleB is saying.

It's like I want every strand coated, but it takes too much to finger part it, and then afterwards, it's hard to smooth back into the ponytai since my hair is everywhere and I don't comb or brush it.

I am scared that if I add globs to my palms and apply some of my strands will get left out. Is this wrong thinking?

Yeah, thats what i do..... just put a bunch of the cream moisturizer in my hair and work it through, without combing. You are right, each and every single strand is probably not getting coated this way. However, since I do this several times during the week, I think by the end of the week the entire head has been moisturized.

So this is okay? Okay, I need to stop OCDing about everything.

I will give this a try. Thanks Kini!!:p

I never comb my hair when moisturizing either. I use a color applicator bottle.

That's a great idea, then you don't even have to part your hair with your fingers (less manipulation). Wonderful suggestion, especially for creamy moisturizers.

Thank you for posting that link.

Do you pull the moisturizer to the ends with your fingers? How do you distribute the moisturizer to the ends?

I keep my hair in two braids most of the time. So I just undo them and squeeze a good amount of moisturizer onto my hands, and put it on my hair and then I spray it with some s-curl and leave in conditioner and braid it back. Sometimes I dont even take my hair loose and will just put some moisturizer on my my roots and ends and spray the rest of my hair and be done with it.

I found that Black Earth's Protective Mist Bodifier is a GREAT moisturizer and detangler. I use that to detangle my hair to prepare it for my rollerset, I LOVE IT because it softens my NG.

Usually deep conditioning my hair detangles it. I wonder if your conditioner is doing a good enough job for you. When I first started air drying 2 years ago, I gave up because by the time my hair dried it was hard and tangled. This summer I tried a new conditioner (Paul Mitchell Super Charged) since that day my hair is soft and tangle free, even the new growth. But I do not comb from new growth to ends. I comb only the relaxed part and set it in rollers for shape.

I just don't like the fact that you can't comb through your air after you condition and air dry.
