How do I test my water to see if it is hard?

They had a thread that was floating around the other day about that, too. They showed a map with all the states, and each state was color coordinated with certain colors. For example, states that had really hard water were indicated in red. Ooh, I wish I could find the thread for you. Do a search on hard water, and hopefully the thread that Im talking about shows up.
