How do I take care of my highlights?!

I got some highlights in my hair about two months ago. For a minute I was not able to do the bun or phony pony tail because they no longer matched my hair color, so I wore my hair down. Well, it started shedding alot, so I searched hight and low until I found me a phony pony tail that "somewhat" matched, but I find that my hair is still shedding even though I try to do the same thing I had been doing since last year to grow it out. I'm ticked off because I worked so hard at getting my hair back in shape and now I feel like it's about to fall all out. Can yall give me some tips on what to do?!

When I had highlights I just continued with my regular routine which consists of lots of conditioning and no heat (or almost no heat:).
I also started using Motions Oil Moisturizing Silk Protein Conditioner which is AWESOME!!!!
When you have colored/highlighted relaxed hair you just have to take EXTRA EXTRA care. Hot oil treatments are very good too and doing these things should get you back on track.

I agree with nay, hot oil treatments really help. I like EVOO with a cap and heat. also, depending on your hair, you may want to decrease shampooing, until the hair gets back healthy. Daily shampooing or cw may be a little stressing to the hair, because the hair is very fragile due to the color. Highlights can be very drying so keep it oiled and/or moisturized, depending on your hair type. Light oils work better for me than creamy oil moisturizers. And of course don’t forget the protein and reconstructor treatments.

What is your hair-tine?

I agree w/Nay. You have to take extra care of your hair since color of any kind draws out moisture thus, making your hair in need of it.

I, too, stuck with my regular routine. However, I added Aubrey's GPB cond (a mild protein con) and a ceramic iron to my arsenal and I must say that I have NO breakage or dryness of any kind.

Moisture is the key! HTH

I bought a big tub of Motions Oil Moisturizing Silk Conditioner, I've been using that for years. I love it. I guess I need to stick to my regimine that I was doing when I first joined. I haven't been conditioner washing my hair every day like I use to..maybe every other day or so. But I just hate pulling it back because I got the highlights to show off my hair for the summer. Maybe I'll dye it back after the summer is over..that is if I got any hair left on my head!

I put highlights in my hair not too long ago and use Paul Mitchell daily shampoo for color treated hair and Nexxus humectress (?) as a leave in, as I wash and go.

I have that Humectress and it does nothing for my hair at all!

I use it on my little girls hair.

I like Paul Mitchell's Color Care conditioner (w/the orange writing). It makes your hair soft, has UV filters (essential for protecting against fading) and provides great slip!
