How do I do this without being rude?

I have been growing my hair with weaves for the past four years. I stopped going to the salon about three years ago, after my friend introduced me to this nice woman that does hair from her home. She is wonderful. She doesn't charge too much, doesn't braid too tight, and she's just an overall friendly and respectful person. She cares about the health of my hair and often gives me healthy hair tips. She's always excited when I come back to her and she sees the health and length of my hair has flourished. She's a saint. I know.

Sooooo....What could possibly be the problem? Well. I am a tad bit frightened by germs...When I see her using a comb on the head of someone else, it makes me cringe knowing she is going to put that same comb in my hair! So my question is, would I be rude to bring my own set of combs, thread, and sewing needles from now on? How exactly do I go about doing this? :perplexed

No, it's not rude. Just tell her you prefer for her to use your combs. That's shouldn't offend her.

I agree with Coffee. you can say, "Ms. X, do you have a problem is we use these items instead". Give her a chance to agree to it.

I always take my own combs when I go to a salon. I have all the same combs or the only combs I want used on my hair. I also take my own implements when I get pedicure.:look:

I know how you feel! i would cringe as well, but I have a question... Has she been using these combs on your hair for the past 3 years? (maybe I'm misunderstanding...)

I used to do hair on occassion and I preferred it when people brought their own utensils. I had a set of stuff that I used specifically for other ppl & I am a germ-o-phob so I was always spraying stuff down with alcohol.

you dont need to explain yourself. just tell her you'd prefer it if she used your comb set. however.... this convo should've been brought up 3 years ago...:look:

(gosh this thread is making me wanna take my own comb to my braiders' shop next time!)
I would just walk in with a sweet smile, say "I'm so glad to see you again, I was just talking about how I love the way you do my weave!" then "here's some stuff I brought with me for us to use today".

Thanks for the advice ladies. I suppose I will just try and slip it in casually and nicely. I was under the impression that she does use clean combs on all of her clients. I've seen her boil the combs before. But the other day I sat with my friend while she got her hair done, and she had to wait until she finished braiding the girls hair who came at an earlier time. She then proceeded to use the comb on my friend. So she does sanitize her combs.... Just not after every client. I was under the impression that since I knew she sanitized her combs, she was using a fresh comb on me every time... Not the case. :nono:
