Question for ladies who have been in situations where their hair stalled but eventually got over the hump, how did you do it?

I just need a little inspiration because although I have seen an improvement looking at pics from last year, the more recent pics seems like my hair is frozen at apl. and i know its not a race but i'm seeing people who started at neck length catching up to me so i feel like something isn't right. :ohwell: i think it may have something to do with perm rods but not sure yet.

But please share stories for people like me that need a little inspiration :(

I'm trying to figure this out. I think I need extra protein in my life (inside and out).

Trying to "protect" my hair ended up causing a setback. I figured it out. My hair does best when it's straight. I avoid tangles, matting, and single strand knots. Im going back to straight hair (dominican blowouts). Wigs have hurt more than they have helped. My hairline had some breakage and I just didn't reach my potential this year. My hotgirl regimen got me from apl to bsl and from bsl to mbl. Protective styling has had me at apl for a year :( Go figure.

Bunning. It's my go-to protective style because it has yet to fail me. I wash and condition (or just co-wash), I may stretch my hair first, and then put my hair in a bun. I take down after a week or so and do it all over again. I spritz my hair when it feels dry. In the summer, I typically wash more frequently.

Perhaps, it's best to look into what could be the source of your progress standstill and go from there?

I didn't have a stuck phase, but bad practices and not truly understanding what my hair can and can't handle. I am starting to research more on how to care for low porosity hair. Like I can't baggy or pre poo over night, I don't need much protein, I can't handle heavy products or buildup. I can't go weeks without washing my hair. Cowashing is not my friend. My hair can tolerate heat. Detangling spray is my friend.etc...

hide your hair...

what gets me over a hump is to weave it up,bun it up, half wig, protective style...long term. i commit to not looking at my hair for 6 months. when i take it down, it never disappoints.

Prettymetty what is the hotgirl regimen please. Thank you.

My hotgirl regimen is monthly blowouts. I prepoo my scalp with Alter Ego. I shampoo with Keracare detangling poo, do a Nexxus Emergencee treatment and dc with Keracare Humecto under the dryer. Next, I add Chi Silk Infusion and they rollerset my hair. My hair remains straight for 2-4 weeks unless it gets wet.

When I was relaxedy HG regimen was either cowash or shampoo every 2 weeks. Airdry, use Chi silk and flatiron.

When my hair stalled at MBL, I'm pretty sure it was due to me obsessing over length.

I stopped trimming regularly, I started using heat so I could see my true length more often than I normally would have, I got lazy with moisturizing, I strayed away from natural products, I got rough with styling. I was ultimately trying to beat my hair into submission.

I find that my hair flourishes best with low manipulation styling, lots of moisture, natural products & gentle detangling. Whenever I turn my attention to the overall health of my hair, the length is sure to follow.

I'm going through this right now. I've started trying something radical (or maybe not depending on POV): I'm using good old-fashioned grease to seal my ends. It actually seems to work for me. I notice my hair feels less dry, and I do cowash. I trimmed recently so too soon to know if my retention is better. I didn't notice buildup issues, but I'm keeping an eye out and making sure not to use too much at once.

I'm definitely dealing with this right now. Thanks to the OP for creating this thread cuz I need some encouragement. My hair just seemed to stop growing this year so I'm reevaluating somethings.

I'd have to say protective styling and hiding my hair. I got my hair done today, (having a Christmas party tomorrow) and will get it done one more time at Christmas, after that I'll cut my ends and hide it until May! I can now stretch it to the top of my waist in the back.

I learned the hard way that all Protective Styles aren't my friend. I started to pay attention to the one's my hair liked and disliked. Ex. my hair hate extentions and twists although I personally love these styles but I never retained length with these styles. Mini braids and buns are my hairs best friends, I've seen major retention since I started wearing my hair in these 2 styles along with getting the excessive shedding under control.

This is me. My hair doesn't like extensions, buns (which I'm doing right now) and mini braids are my protective styles as well. Love me some box braids but if I get them again it will have to be no longer than 2 weeks

To answer the question less heat and more conditioner
