Last night I spent about an hour on here reading up on how to do your own sew in weave. So I got all excited and went to bbs to get everything I needed. Apparently my bag had a hole in it and I think the thread fell out.

So now I'm sitting at home, my hair cornrowed, tracks cut and ready to go and MAD THAT I HAVE NO THREAD!!!! I really am not trying to go back out to the store esp w/ my half cornrows.

My question: how bad would it be if I used regular thread, like a polyester... I know cotton is a no-no. Thanks ladies.

Ok I found some silk thread, I'm about to try that even tho its not black. I am so impatient lol

I don't think it matters. A lady who did mine used yarn and it was sooooo much easier to cut out than thread!!! I just kept the yarn extremely moist.

how long do u plan to keep the weave in? the only thing I would be concerned about is that regular thread is probably not going to hold up as long as the weave thread. if you arent gonna keep it in that long then it probably wont matter....

I usually keep an extra set of needle and thread around that I got at the BSS, but I remember one time I was due to get my hair done at my house and I couldn't find them anywhere, plus all of the BSS in my area were closed, so I just drove up to walmart and bought one of those needles they use to sew up those thread picture designs (forgot the name of that, you use a cross-stitch pattern but anyway the needle has a blunt end) and I got some all purpose thread from the arts & craft section and I was good to go, weave stayed in for over a month too.

question: why did you cut the wefts before you even began to sew?

I was excited man! I only cut one tho, for the first row in the back. It hasn't dawned on me how to continue the rows w/o cutting

oh. well, some people cut as they go..i think that would be better than pre-cutting all the rows at once because sometimes you raelize all the rows arent where you planned for them to be and have off length rows.

if you want to NOT cut at all(best IMO): just fold the weft flat over when you get to the end of each row. ill take a pic of this one day but so far the best example pic i have is showing a weft folded over...of course you would need to have the heading UPWARDS instead of downwards when you sew it =)
