How are naturals caring for their ends?

I never thought about it until I realized that I lost a lot of progress (4 inches or so) from losing dyed ends. I guess I need to take the time and make sure products are distributed evenly, all the way to the ends. Also step up my protein treatments, paying more attention to the ends. I think it's easier to take care of your ends if they are straight, so how are other naturals doing it? TIA

Hi! I just slap on a mixture of shea butter and olive oil mixture every night. i've noticed these past few months my hair has really grown since joining here--and the only extra stuff i do is make sure i deep condition, keep my hair in twists , and moisterize. it's amazing!!:D

I'm still trying to figure out the best way to take care of my ends. For now though I have decided to trim 2x a year and leave it alone the rest of the time. Most of the time I am wearing natural styles so split ends really don't show too much. I was reading on Ouidad.com (a website for ppl w/ all types of curl) that trimming split ends are useless and conditioning and moisturizing should be enough. I don't know how true this is but I know that conditioning, moisturizing, wearing protective styles and not trimming constantly has contributed for some growth for me this past year- and my hair is pretty healthy-HTH.

Besides wearing twists most of the time, I use EVOO. Also, I do regular CWs, and I use Kenra Intensive Emollient when I deep condition.

I make sure I spritz every night with my water/salerm and then do a single braid and tie it up. I wear a simple ponytail during the day. It's not very protective, but I haven't had a problem with breakage. My thing is how can you tell when your ends need trimming without it being straightened???

As everyone has mentioned, I spritz my hair with plain water every night and rub Oyin whipped pudding on my ends. I also keep my hair twisted or braided 100% of the time.

As far as protein conditioners, I use Aubrey Organics GPB once a month when I take my braids down. This is the time when I trim my hair as needed.

While in braids, I shampoo 2x a week and use a hot oil. Since I've been doing this, I've noticed a reduction in split ends and dry hair.

It looks like I need to take more time to make sure my ends are well moisturized with some type of oil. And up my protein treatments.

Do you find that your hair grows more when it is in twists? I think I slowed down my growth process by not wearing my hair in twists. This winter I plan on doing more twists so my hair will be ready for summer.

I've just started using Castor oil on my ends 2-3 times a week. I also do a hot oil treatment with it when I do my deep conditioning every week. So far it's been working, I've been having an easier time detangling.
