hot oil

I tried the hot oil treatment of Evoo and honey that was recommended but it just left my hair feeling sticky and dry. I used it before I shampooed but I didn't feel like it conditioned my hair in any way. My hair wasn't dried out after I washed it but by then I had applied conditioner. Am I supposed to wet my hair first and apply the hot oil treatment? I would really like to use this beacuse it is natural

and cheap but I don't want to try it again if it is going to make my hair feel like straw. Please help me and let me know what I am doing wrong.

Yes, I believe that the hair is supposed to be wet, and then you apply the hot oil treatment.
