Hello,

I am a newbie here and I see some of the ladies say they are using honey on the hair.

What are the benefits of using honey on the hair?
Does this leave the hair sticky??
Is this just basically for conditioning?

Thanks ladies!

I've used honey in the past. It's a little sticky but I mixed a little with my leave in or moisturizer and it didn't feel that way. It is a humectant so it helps to draw moisture to your hair plus, for me, it was sort of a gel alternative. Thanks for reminding me. I had forgotten about this.

I mix about 1 tbsps of honey with 2 tbsps of conditioner and apply as a deep treatment. My hair came out really frizzy when I used just pure honey, not to mention that it was really sticky and made for an unpleasant experience.

Hey There!
I use honey with my deep conditioners now.

To cut down on the stickiness, I add my honey to oils in a little cup. Then I microwave it for 8-10 seconds. Then apply it to my hair (that already has conditioner on it). Microwaving the honey makes it an oily like texture so it's easier to put in. It almost feels like oil:p You gotta be pretty quick because it cools and it will turn back sticky/thick.

THanks so much lady. I will try this out. Going to try putting it in the Microwave also. I appreciate the tips.

Huggles.

I occasionally do a honey rinse as my final rinse. That is one or two teaspoons of honey in about 2 cups of water.

After the Aphogee Treatment for Damaged Hair, or to co-wash, I add a few heaping spoons of honey and olive oil to a cheap moisturizing conditioner (ie, Suave Milk and Honey or VO5). It makes my hair really soft and shiny!!!!

I have not, and would not recommend, using pure honey alone, undiluted. That sounds like just asking for a sticky, tangled mess. :look:

Thanks again lady.

ElleB....Hello lady. Thanks for being a listening ear while I wanted to become a member here. Hugs to you!

Letitia,

I would really recommend that you at least try the honey method. I use 2 TBS of honey, 2 TBS of EVOO, and 4 TBS of my conditioner every week (My measurements were smaller when my hair was shorter). I warm it in the microwave for a few seconds then deep condition under the dryer for at least 15 min. I really attribute it to the shine of my hair. I use only a few drops of oil to keep my roller-sets light, but I am never lacking in the shine department when my hair is straight, on the other hand when my hair is textured, that sleek look of a smooth cuticle is a little harder to achieve.

Oh, and welcome to the board!!! I'm sure your hair will never be the same!!!

Thanks MelsWifey,

I will give this a try on my next Deep Conditioner. Thanks for the welcome also. I am learning much from you ladies and I just got her. Huggles.

I do this also. It really helped my curls behave and cut down on frizz. It's hard to beleive that just a small amount of honey can do so much.

I use honey as part of my pre-poo treatment and my hair loves it.

I combine VO5 conditioner ( I love Strawberry and Cream), olive oil, honey and wild growth oil, heat it all up for a few minutes and leave on my hair for as long as 6 hours. I truly truly love it.

I find the best way to use honey is to mix it with 1 pt honey and 2 pts olive oil and use it as a pre shampoo deep conditioner/hot oil treatment.

The very first time I tried it I was 4 weeks into a realxer and I had a bout 2 inches of growth, not to mention my hair was cut low so you can imagine how crazy that looked.

I mixed everything together warmed it in the microwave(u can use double broiler 2) and put it all over my dry hair. Put a shower cap on, did the dishes, vacuumed,ect... then sat under the dryer for 5min. Once I shampooed, rinsed, conditioned, and rinsed, I thought I had made a horrible mistake b/c my hair was sticky, but once it dried, my new growth was sooooo soft, I felt like I was touching somebody else's head. My hair had never been that soft.

I have been using the honey olive oil mixs and I love it!! You ladies have really helped me out with this one.

Thanks so much!!
