Hi ladies!!
On Monday I made my first MTG alternative. I was so excited to make it. I used an 8oz color applicator bottle, filled sulfur powder (baldwin's brand) to the first measurement line, and then poured the entire 4oz bottle of Wild growth oil. This took me to about the 6oz mark. I had a little of my Jamaican black castor oil left and i added that too. Altogether my mixture was about 7oz. I shook it up and let it sit for 2 days like I've been reading on the forum. This afternoon I went and checked on it and it looked okay, but I took the lid off to see if it had a scent and whooo, it smelled like rotten eggs! It made my stomach hurt so badly from just one little wift. I immediately threw it in the trash. What went wrong?? What can I do to make a better one ladies?? I'm going to try another mixture this weekend, so any tips would be greatly appreciated.

TIA, sorry so long

Sulfur is a naturally stinky substance, IMO. Especially when it gets heated up. P-U! :perplexed
You can try covering it up with other frangrances. I used peppermint and other EO's in mine.

Yucky. I heard that sulfur is stinky and then combined with WGO, which people say is stinky as well, I can see why it turned out like that. I think Natural Lady says something about getting odorless sulfur from somewhere. You might have to do a search under her name and find out what you can do. Try leaving the WGO out next time and see what happens.

JBCO and WGO both have an interesting smell so I can just imagine how they would smell when mixed together with sulfur. I mix my baldwins with regular clear castor oil and it does not have a smell to me at all. I then put a few drops of peppermint oil and the peppermint oil dominates the sulfur plus I love the tingle it gives my scalp. I use my JBCO to mix in my conditioners and WGO on the rest of my hair especially my ends and my new growth in my couple weeks before my relaxer because sulfur and lye do not mix.

Pick any essential oil aroma and add it to clear castor oil and sulfur.

i didn't know that! i was thinking of changing to ORS lye now thats its available, but i still want to use my sulfur mix. Are you saying the sulfur will break off the lye relaxed hair? if so I'll keep with the no lye for sure!

I didn't know that either. Thanks for this information. I just recently started making an MSM conditioner so I'll be sure to stop using that a week before I do my relaxer.

Oh no no no, I should have put a little smiley face after that. I meant that many people including myself have experianced relaxer burn when they don't clarify during their last wash before a relaxer to get the sulfur out. Also many have said that their relaxers don't take as well. I usually go at least a week without using my mix before a relaxer. Sorry for the confusion. Your hair will not fall out or anything.

Thanks for all the info ladies. I think I'm going to try what Hersheykiss suggested
