Tangerine, orange, bergamot, grapefruit and limonene are added to many of these cleansing conditioners as a cleansing agent that, along with manipulation, dislodge dirt from the scalp and hair. Peppermint oil helps to equalize the oil ratio in the hair during washing. You can use a true citrus-based cleansing conditioner or a peppermint-based and add either of these essential oils to your cleansing mix.

Volcanic clay also attracts impurities and dirt, as well a diatomaceous earth. For this recipe, I used:

2 16 oz. bottles Trader Joe's Citrus Refresh conditioner

5 drops peppermint essential oil

7 drops tea tree oil

1/8 c. Sonne's Detoxification No. 7 (volcanic ash, bentonite solution)

large glass bowl

1 whisk

funnel or pastry bag for smaller-necked bottles...product will be very thick

Whisk oils into conditioner, then add the bentonite solution.
