I don't know if he was homeless or not but he looked and smelled like it (not saying that in a negative way).

I walked up to the bus stop and I saw this boy rubbing half a lime in his hair and talking to himself. I stood there and watched him for a minute and yall know I couldn't resist asking him about what he was doing. Clearly, he had a mental problem and I wasn't sure if he was going to look up and throw that lime at me or what. At first I wanted to ask him if he was Niko's cousin, but I asked him what he was doing with the lime. Being from this planet (LHCF) I knew the secret but was shocked that a boy, and a homeless boy, no less, would know about our natural lime straightener. He was like, I use it to make my waves. I was like oh, I've heard of that. Do you put anything else in it? He was like naw. Then I said, you know you have those bits all over your head and your clothes. Do you think that the juice would work? Him: Naw I leave these in for about a week. All this time he is constantly rubbing this lime across his head and the bits are like popping everywhere...and he's not looking at me, but off in the distance. He also has the juice on his hands, and you know that sticky residue you get on your hands when you peel oranges... he had that all over his hand. btw, he has really small, tight curls - like a 4c maybe. Me: How much does it straighten your hair. Him: I just do it to get waves, it depends on how long I do it. Me: I've heard of the lime straightener, but the people that use it add yogurt to it. Him (laughing): Thats just crazy!

Right here I'm thinking ...crazy? :lachen: ...looking at those bits all over his head and clothes. Me: Oh. How old are you? Him: 19 I went on to talk about something else with him. But can y'all believe this? I just had to share this with y'all. Nobody else would understand the irony in this encounter but yall.

Nice story but I would be more concerned with why this 19 year old boy is homeless and hopefully could provide him some resources or the number to a shelter.

Sounds like he was just a little"off" to me.

Homeboy had problems, nice hair or not :lachen::lachen:

Don't talk to people like that, girl. (It could be dangerous)

Headlice treatment?

I'm totally serious.

Some good home remedies to treat head lice include…..

Using 2 tablespoons of pure butter and 1 tablespoon of lemon juice…..combine these ingredients in a thick paste and apply to the entire head for 2 hours. Then you can wash your hair as normal. You must use the comb or your fingers to remove the nits. If you leave them in the hair you will soon have another infestation, because these treatments do not generally kill all of the eggs that are attached to the hair.

You can also coat all of the hair with mayonnaise and leave this on for several hours. The longer the time you leave this on your hair, the greater the chance of ridding the person of the head lice. Some people will apply products like this and leave it in place overnight. You can use a shower cap to protect the bedding. If you choose this method you can wash your hair and use the nit comb the next morning.

Another of the popular home remedies for head lice is to use Vaseline which is applied liberally to the scalp and hair. This method will work well to eliminate the head lice but the Vaseline can be very hard to get out of your hair for several days.

There are also home remedies for head lice which includes washing the hair with pure lemon or lime juice, Listerine plain mouthwash or a shampoo made from 10 drops of tea tree oil and 16 ounces of warm water. You can also make a paste to treat head lice by using a dozen natural almonds. These should be crushed and then a tablespoon of lime or lemon juice can be added. This can be applied to the hair and scalp and left in place for 1-2 hours. To remove this paste, simply wash your hair as normal.

You can easily steal a lime or pick one up from somewhere.

I feel sorry for the kid if he is homeless.

i hope my brother doesn't think of that reggie
:drunk::grin:

Since we're talking about pulp...

I mix my henna with orange juice. Like a month ago I mixed up my henna, not even paying attention to the front of the orange juice carton. Yeah, it was orange juice with lots of pulp.

When I went to rinse my hair out, it looked like little boogers and lint was all up in my hair  I spent over 3 hours combing and brushing it out.

Cant believe I just admitted to that

Orange juice with pulp is still banned from this house.

Yeah, he definitely had a mental problem. I was worried about him. I didn't know if I should've just come out and ask him if he was homeless. I didn't want to make any assumptions and offend him. I asked him if he had family in my city and where he was going. He has family here and he said he wasn't going anywhere. I also talked to him about the Lord. Being pretty new to the city, I didn't have any resources for him. I just asked him if he needed prayer and we prayed together. When my bus came, he didn't get on. Its the only bus that runs on that street, so I assume that where ever he was coming from or going was near there. He didn't ask for money or anything like that either. I pray for him whenever, I think about him.

But you guys...its the hair part I'm trippin on. How could he have discovered that? ...and isn't it funny that an LHCFer would cross someone like this? Does this make us crazy?

Do black people get lice? I heard that lice have paws(? I dont know what their grippers are called) that are formed in such a way that they cannot grip our kind of hair because its kinky.

Sorry, I have to ask this. Are you some kind of angel???? Seriously. You're one of a kind... not many people would ever consider talking to a homeless or "crazy" person, let alone willing to pray with them.

God bless you for what you did. You're an example to us all :bighug: I don't mean that we should all go out and start talking to homeless people, because yes, some can be dangerous. But just the example of love you showed to not only a complete stranger, but to someone who is probably forgotten and marginalized by the rest of society. Phenomenal...

We CAN get lice, however we tend to get it much less often than other races.

African lice have adapted to African Textured hair, but American lice do prefer European shaped hair. We also relax/use heat/use greases and oils more often than people of other races, and that also helps.

I've known of/seen black people with lice. It's just a lot more rare.

I think that may be a myth. :scratchch

Next time you see him, best to stand a ways back or at least up wind sis.

There are three kinds of lice; head lice, body lice and pubic lice that are categorized based on how they grip the hair. Clearly Black folk can get the body lice and pubic lice just like everyone else. But we don't generally get the head lice because it has difficulty holding onto our hair texture which, as you know, is so different from all the other races. But if you're Black with bone straight hair, they could probably hold on.

See I was like thank God you prayed with him and found out more about him in whatever ways you could and yeh I think you were sent to meet him, who knows, that little encounter may have changed him positively...And girl, well I think we all are a little hair crazy on this board, what can I say? We love us some hair...this is our own little mental ward for hair freaks who are obssessed, in love, can't be without, won't do without a passion for hair! LOL...But back on track, yes, I think so many more of us need to be better representatives for Christ...You def just did "when I was alone you comforted me, hungry feed me (u know spiritual food in this case)."

See, it's stuff like that that makes me love riding the bus. There's always a story to tell. And, damn, the stories I could tell.

Great story and I can tell that your a very classy lady by the way you handled this situation.

Now that I think about it, God used the lime thing as an opener for me to pray for him. I am not an outgoing person, by any means, but I do pray for people and I have done it numerous times on public transportation. I have never met anyone that will refuse prayer. With this boy though, I don't know that I would have just offered prayer because he was talking to himself and was definitely "off." I talked to a clearly deranged person once before I moved here. This lady was eating some popeyes at the bus stop and she was mumbling to herself, but she was calm, and I don't remember what I said, but she looked at me with this crazy look and started throwing crumbs at me and shouting!!! I was like JEEVUS?!?!:lachen:

I stepped away from her and she continuing talking loudly and flicking those crumbs. It was so weird because she was shouting in an English sounding language, but I could not understand a word she was saying. She was possessed. I had to wait there with her for another 5 minutes. Sorry this is getting OT.

LOLOL the image of this made my stomach hurt girl :lachen:

On a serious note though, I hope that boy is OK. It's cold now... :ohwell:

I hate to say this but although he might have seemed to act a little off, people like that are suprisingly intelligent! Bless his heart, he might not have been homeless! Who knows. I also understand why you did not ask him was he infact homeless because some people take those type of questions offensively and he could have really gone off on you.

Just be careful if you see him again or run across other people like him because anything could set them off.

I do hope by the grace of God that he finds his way in life though!:perplexed

I know a Pastor's wife who was waiting for a bus and this woman asked her for the correct time. She checked her watch and next thing you know this woman had her up against a wall of a department store choking her. She was trying to get free and had to fight and push her off, while at the same time trying to tell her Jesus loved her, while at the same time trying to call for help. The lady really freaked on her when she mentioned Jesus and choked her until she nearly passed out. No one came to her aid for a while, just passed by and kept going or turned away. She said that if God had not finally got someone to help her she would have been gone.

She says she will be very careful about this sort of thing in future.

I worked at a community health center, that was focused on helping getting folks off of drugs, getting them housing, helping with the mentally ill, getting them job training etc...

And we had TONS OF PEOPLE who had degrees, md, phd, ba, bs who were mentally ill. This one lady had a Phd in English from UC Berkeley but was GONE. She didnt' like taking showers and talked to herself alot. So no you are dead on...some of these folks a brilliant.

Wow! I wonder what was going on with this womans bodyguards (angels). That is crazy. They probably barely got them demons off of her RIGHT IN TIME. Reminds I need to have some extended praying time this morning.

It's raining in LA YUCK!

Ok, does the lime thing really work? If so how is it suppose to be used? My hubby has been trying to get waves since High School. But I don't want to tell him I got the info based on a possible mental guy!

WOW, this made me laugh. Maybe he though yogurt was crazy because he doesn't rinse! But that's a thought for brothers though. Maybe they can use limes to create waves!
