So I think I'm going to give myself highlights. Any suggestions on making sure my hair doesnt get totally destroyed?

TIA

Umm, my only suggestion would be NOT to do it yourself!! Please don't...at home kits contain alot of peroxide and basically strip the strands to lighten them. I have highlights that my stylist did, and sometimes I wished I hadn't gotten them. All of my breakage and splits are on the lightened strands :ohwell:. If you're bored with your color maybe try henna to give yourself some shimmering color...or get the highlights done in a salon. IMHO :)

I have no experience with at home highlighting kits. But what I do is pull the hair I want colored through a highlight cap and apply a Texture&Tones kit to it. It's coloring my hair in highlights without doing the actual process.
