Ok I still haven't bought this yet and I almost did yesterday. But the sales associate in Sally's just scared me. He said that it would be like putting minerals or metal in my hair and that he would recommend to use the clear Jazzy. Ok I would like to know how many of you ladies that use this never used any thing like this before. The reason I am apprehensive is because I have never put any type of dye in my hair. Again can you please remind me of what this is suppose to do. Promote shine, condition hair, and help eliminate the split ends (is that right?). Also before I told him that I didn't want a color he was telling me that you have to wait for this to grow out of your hair or cut it out. Even though this shouldn't matter for me using the neutral color I still would like to know if this is true. I thought this was something that washed out over time. Was he just ignorant on the subject?

I honestly don't know where he was coming from with that one....minerals and metal??? With the neutral shade?

Well here's what I've done. I've used sebastian colourshines before, but the last two times I've done color anything I used hennalucent bark brown, and then I mixed two hennalucent shades with the neutral.

Now, in all honesty...I don't recommend mixing shades because I had a negative experience in that regard (uneven toning). But I have had a huge reduction in splits. They are practically nonexistant these days. I really think using the neutral, which has no color whatsoever, would be a safe option. I hope others can offer their input, and if you search on old hennalucent threads, people who used the Neutral had nothing but good things to say about it.

Say what! I wonder had he ever used hennalucnet! I use it about every 2 months and love it. It leaves my hair shiny and soft!

maybe he was confusing hennalucent with actual henna.

What is the difference between Henna and Hennalucent?

He was a gay guy (not that it matters) and he seemed to use alot of things in the store. He said that he wouldn't touch that stuff because it is kind of ify. But he recommended the Jazzy which he said is basically the same thing(?).

I stopped using hennalucent after I found out that the ingredients were not listed on the package, and I didn't know what I was putting in my hair. I experienced extreme dryness the 1st & last time I used the product with good results in between. I never know what the results will be, and I don't like that inconsistency. The dryness & not knowing what went wrong is not worth it to me.

Hi Kaela,

Actually, he was confusing the truth with fantasy. You can pretty much chalk what he had to say up to utter nonsense. There was or may still be a Hennalucent product that contains metallic salts. Products with metallic salts in them should not be used with perms that require a neutralizer or hair dyes with peroxide. There are Hennalucent products that do not contain the metallic salts. You want to be sure to get that one. But I wouldn't ask him which was which. He obviously would not have a clue.

What he had to say would not be true of henna or hennalucent. Hennalucent is a product with a bit henna or "neutral" henna in it and a lot of other things that work as conditioners as well.

Hi Diamond_nh,

I don't use Hennalucent but do use henna. There are some similarities and some major differences. Kind of capsulized:

Both the Hennalucent and natural henna can be used to color and condition your hair. Hennalucent has a neutral hennalucent product that conditions without color. There is a "neutral" henna product sold that also conditions your hair without color. Neither of these two have henna in them.

Hennalucent in the colors has a bit of henna along with some other herb or coloring agent in it to provide color. It also has lots of other things that is there for conditioning, as a preservative etc. Natural henna both colors and conditions your hair and is 100% Lawsonia Inermis. Basically, the natural henna is an all natural product and the Hennalucent is not an all natural product.

Both can be used on all types of hair...natural and chemically treated. With both it is important to know what you are wanting as results from them and how they actually impact your hair. You may have to or want to look at your current list of products and allow the Hennalucent or natural henna to replace some of the things that are part of an existing regimen.

With both, it is recommended that you think in terms of a one-two punch that would consist of the Hennalucent or henna treatment followed by a moisturizing conditioner or moisturizing oils. If hair receiving a henna/hennalucent treatment tends to lean towards dry, that one-two punch is essential.

I think he may have been thinking of hennalucent simply as a hair colorant and that is why he said that it and Jazzy are basically the same thing????

Take care.

Goodness! Does he even know what hennalucent is?

I was thinking the same thing. Some clerks don't like to admit that they don't have a clue. I heard a Sally's clerk tell a customer Proclaim Coconut Oil Hair & Scalp Conditioner kept her daughter's hair from "turning".

*This might be a Southern thing... "Turning" refers to a baby's hair staying wavy and not getting nappy.

I use hennalucent and no it does not grow out or have to be cut out of your hair. It fades out gradually, it is not a permanent committment. It is safe for relaxed hair. Dude just doesn't know what he's talking about

Thanks Ladies!!! I read the description on a website and it said that it does not contain any metallic salts. But you understand my worries since I have never done anything like this before and have no desire for color. But maybe one day I will try the neutral.

I have read on this board that some ladies really see the benefits with the second use. How long do you have to wait before you apply it again?

You can relax and do a hennalucent treatment in the same day. Caramella does, and look how pretty her hair is.
