Henna: where to buy?? should I expect to be stiffed with high shipping costs?

I am looking at buying some BAQ henna. I found mehandi, and I think paying 10 dollars for shipping is exorbitant. Am i wrong?
Can anyone tell me of a site that will be able to give me my product without stiffing me on the shipping, or am I being naive?

also, I am trying to get a definitive answer through this forum about the benefits of henna, I have gleaned that it strengthens, detangles, colours. am i right about that? is there anything else?
then theres all the formulas. mehandi says dont add anything but lemon juice; every1 here says do, oils, coffee, wine. whats right?

i know there must be places you can go to to buy henna and indigo that wont kill your pocket. Anyone in detroit please lemme know.

I paid alot for some bangs to be shipped to over $10 if they weren't discontinted I wouldn't have bought them :nono:

Let me know I am also looking for Henna and Indigo, I had to cancel an order with them $78 was a little out of my price range.
 
I ordered henna from mehandi and I was paying $78 dollars I cancelled :nono: I just couldn't at the moment. My pockets are thin!
 
Have you ladies checked to see if there is an Indian grocery store in your area? I use Reshma henna (it is body art quality ~ another BAQ brand carried in stores is Jamila) unfortunately, I have to order my indigo online (through mehandi.com).
 
I did a quick google search.. you may want to try giving the following stores a call. I'm a California Girl so I have no idea if they actually carry those brands but it's worth a shot! Definitely cheaper than ordering online. My local indian grocer carries 200g boxes of Reshma for $2.95 =)

Yes, OP, you should be able buy henna locally. I live in a small town and have to order all of my ayurvedic powders online.

I buy 10 100g pkgs at a time. I henna every other week (without fail) and I do a henna/indigo treatment on my DH every month.

My last order was from ayurnaturalbeauty.com during her 20% off anniversary sale Aug 26 (no shipping cost). So this should last me and DH 'til I catch another sale or until Spring.

I don't like paying shipping.

ETA: I purchased Jamila henna (it's BAQ) for $5.25/100g box along with kalpi-tone and maka powders.

The nearest Indian grocery is about 90 minutes away (if no traffic issues). The nearest BAQ tattoo shop is about 30 minutes away so its off to the tatt shop.

hi there. i read your post and the first thing i said was "aaaah thats so nice of her" thank you, I didnt think to google it which is weird because i google everything, but you have given me a heads up. you are all so right, i will not pay 30 dollars for something i know doesnt cost more than 5 dollars.

anyone got any info or link to threads that can illuminate on the why and wherefores of mixing the henna? all help appreciated.
 
I ordered from theindianfoodstore.com. Their shipping is a flat rate of 8.99. This may sound steep, but their prices were the best I found, so it evened out. I got three 100g boxes of Jamila (3.99), one 150g bag of Godjreh Nupur Henna Blend (3.69) ,100g of Amla powder (3.39 i think), and a bottle of Dabur Vatika coconut oil (4 something) for $31 bucks, shipping included. So if you buy enough, it doesn't seem so bad. Hope this helps. HHJ.

Jamila henna on Mehandi.com is only 7 dollars and change for 100grams. Which is enough for hair that is as long as apl. =) Shipping costs were low for me. No more than 5 dollars.

Edit: I dont see a Jamila crop anymore :( But they do have this, same price as Jamila. No harmful ingredient, pure baq.

i was trying to order henna from them today and it was 10.86 shipping. no thanks. daylight robbery in my opinion. alot of internet sellers give you a bargain on the product then stiff you on the shipping. and I would prefer to buy local too, just works out better that way I think.
