So I henna'd my hair. Not sure how I feel about it but I will try it again. It was messy and that stuff smelled so bad. I used Rainbow Henna that I bought from my local health food store. It was chestnut brown color. I like to wear my hair black but they didn't have Indigo... I figured the color wouldn't show. I can't tell if it did anything beneficial to my hair. I do see there is a slight tint of color. It didn't cover my 2 grey hairs that I have. I kind of had a headache after I put it on my hair but I was getting sick at the time so I won't count that. There were granulers left in my hair I had to rewash the next day. The pic in my siggy is my henna's hair. I also added another pic. I just got my hair done at the Dominican salon. I had them blow

It looks SUPER shiny and your ends look very healthy. Was it cassia or henna? How long did it set and how long did you leave it on? I really want to try henna, but I love the natural color of my hair and don't want to change that.

Rainbow henna was the 1st "henna" I ever tried, but I used the Neutral. It did condition my hair ( I was amazed actually), but after using the real deal, even cassia, I realize that something is up with that Rainbow "henna". The neutral powder is not even close in color to cassia or henna so I don't know what they have in that stuff. At least Light Mountain's neutral henna looks EXACTLY like cassia.

But, your hair is very pretty.

Still, girl you HAVE to try the real deal. Even try some cassia and you will be like .

Well your hair does look good, thick, healthy with a BEAUTIFUL shine, even if the henna doesn't work for you, whatever your doing really is!

Thanks for the compliment. It was Henna. I let it sit in my hair for an hour. They have henna that does not add color.

Honeydew - yeah I am going to go by the Indian store and try the real deal

Crissi - thanks for the compliment

Girl, I KNOW, you have seen all this talk about henna, cassia, amla, etc! :) When I say the real deal, I mean the real henna powder that you buy that ONLY gives you red highlights only or cassia that gives you conditioning w/o color. This is who I get my stuff from: http://www.hennasooq.com/ She is a member here. Here is one link http://www.hennaforhair.com/ and Free samples: http://www.indian-herbs-exporters.com/free-herbs.html (this is one of the suppliers listed on the Henna for Hair site. Here is a VERY good read: http://www.hennaforhair.com/freebooks/hennaforhair.pdf

That's good. I have nothing against Rainbow Henna, though. I really had great conditioning from them. I was just thrown off when I compared the powder to Cassia, or "neutral" henna. It was not even the same color. It was not the color of henna either, even though they say they only list henna as a ingredient. To me, they need to just keep it real and say what they are using. At least Light Mountain says that they mix different herbs and don't guarantee any certain color. They need to sift the powder a bit more (had lots of debris), but it's still a decent product, as well.

I'm looking foward to seeing what real henna looks like. Rainbow does claim to be just Henna but I have read other posts that states that it is so different. Maybe it was the debris that was still stuck in my hair after I washed it. My hair did feel soft after using it but I was cowashing with V05 strawberries and cream and putting it in a bun for a week. My hair is always soft using that stuff I think...lol. Anyway I will try it again.

Beautifullll hair, it looks soo thick & shiney, I need to get some like today!! Is henna the same as hennalucent (from Sally's)??

I like neutral hennalucent, but I stopped using it because I noticed that my scalp tingled too much when I used it  It burned like when you leave a relaxer on a little too long. It has different ingredients but I tried it because it also has protien in it and I thought that would be nice. I cannot stand that burning and I don't know what ingredient in it was burning me like that.

The debris in that stuff is CRAZY. It's like they don't even TRY to sift it. Light Mountain does not haev as much debris, but it is enough for you to get sick of trying to get it out. I found that combing my hair out with conditioner and a detangling comb under the running shower helped after I rinsed and shampooed a few times. But, still, you would think they would at least TRY to clean the powder up a bit.

Beautiful hair! Congratulations!:)

Your hairs looks so thick and glossy, really well and healthy. You go girl.

What is henna supposed to do anyway, minus the colour?

tetbelle (meaning beautiful head, if you speak french and you do have a "belle tete" but it sounds better in french then when you translate it), your hair is beautiful. It really is and I can see some of that color ! You took a really good shot with your camera and we can see the shine and your hair really good.
I would suggest going with the "real stuff" yeah because for one you won't have all those debris in it and you will be able to easily wash it out and the strength and freshness will be much better. Yes it can be messy but once you get into the swing of it you get comfortable with what you are doing and are good to go.

Henna apart from giving your hair great color (or highlights depending on your hair color), it strengthens your hair, conditions, stops the breakage and splitting due to making it stronger, healthier and wow SHINY !! It's anti dandruff and has many medical benefits.
You can add amla powder for volume, and maintaining curl and it's a natural astringent and good for your skin (as a scrub as is ghassoul clay/mud).
You can add some shikakai as this promotes hair growth, and has a neutral PH that doesn't strip the oils from your hair.
Don't want color but want everything henna can give you, use cassia obovata.
Then lastly indigo, want to cover greys along with henna use this !! Along with henna it creates brown to black tones. It tones down henna's reddish tones. Amla is also known for toning down henna's red tones.

Well that's a short summary on the benefits of these herbal powders.

Have a good weekend

Thanks for the compliment and all this great info. Thanks to all of you.

your hair looks beautiful!! The shine is very pretty!! If the henna did that then I think henna definitely works for you.:)

I use Jamila henna. It has lasted me a very long time because my hair is right at my lower neckline. I mix henna, indigo, amla powder, evoo, jojoba, and a tablespoon of my favorite conditioner. I don't have many greys but it covers the ones that I have and gives my hair a mix of dark red/chocolate brown cover and highlights. I really love henna. Its the best hair discovery I've ever been introduced to. My hair is always strong and feels like silke when I rinse it out. I usually add some NTM conditioner during my rinse out and that gives me superior slip...no tangles, not dryness.

Hope you try some of the better quality henna. I think you'll fall in love.

Your hair is very pretty and healthy looking and the shine is amazing. I think I've finally seen enough I'm going to try henna for myself :yep:!

Your hair looks great :)!!! I really want to henna, but I'm such a chicken :perplexed.
