I read all of those pages and more! Henna is safe as JLove said over previously color treated hair, even if you have permanent color in it and even if hair is relaxed (my concern). Just be sure to use body art quality henna found at www.hennasooq.com or www.hennaforhair.com or in some Indian stores.

Okay, this is yet another henna question. I bought some henna (rainbow brand I think) and it didn't seem to do ANYTHING to my hair at all, but after some reasearch I figured it was because it wasn't body quality. So my boyfriend and I went on a henna hunt and found a tiny store with some henna. It says you can use it on your hands and feet but does that mean its body art quality? I also don't know if I should wash my hair before I henna or what. Um... oh and i don't have all that alma oil and what not, just some good old Evoo, some conditioner and honey, is that good enough to add to the henna?.... Okay ONE last question, should I pre poo before the henna? okay, that's all... PLEASE HELP!

Welcome to LHCF, Icandoallthings! :)

What you found could be body art quality henna--check to make sure it is 100% henna, nothing added. BTW, was that an Indian store? Some of the boxed henna is not good, especially if your hair is relaxed or has been colored before. Good BAQ henna can be found in Indian stores or at www.hennasooq.com or www.hennaforhair.com

Some of the ladies use it on dry, dirty hair with great results. You can pre-poo if you choose to but I don't think it's necessary.

Also, make sure it's red you want on your hair. Henna alone will always add red to your natural or color treated hair color. If yours is dark brown, you'll get a shade of auburn or brown with auburn highlights.

After the color release, you don't have to add anything to the henna unless you want to. Lemon juice can be pretty drying. Adding honey or conditioner makes it more of a gloss but it will still add color.

Now, how about the reverse? My silver strands are just not being covered with the Light Mountain henna/indigo mix. Straight Afshan henna did better. I'm ready to start using a black rinse at the salon again...possibly jazzing...washes out but I want those things hidden!

Thanks bunches Isis. I did the henna thing and it turned out pretty well. Not as messy as the other time, and definatly red (unlike the last time). Thank you so much for all your help, because I definatly was lost! Oh and the store I went to was Indian I think... well an Indian and a Pakistanian reffered me there for henna, so hopefully It was the right kind... It did loosen my VERY tightly coiled new growth, so that was an extra plus! Thanks again!
