what if, after you mix your henna ingredients together and let it marinate, you don't like your strand test results? do you add more stuff to try and darken it or do you have to pitch it and start over?

What do you mena by darken it? The henna is more orangey than red/too bright?

Two things - 1) Henna oxidizes over time. The inital color that you get will darken - a good bit - over the next two days or so.
2) Each time you use henna, it gets a little darker, as the overlay of color deepens.

I would say use it, wait for it to oxidize, and if it's still too light - just do another henna!

depending on your desired color you might try adding amla powder for a dark brown or using grape juice or beetroot for purple or burgundy cast and if you want raven black you gotta go indigo.

I meant it was more orangey than red. Its's wierd, its like the more i look at my sample that darker it seems. I dont know if its in my head or what:perplexed

I'm going to go ahead and apply the henna and see what happens. Youre right though, if its not the right color I'll just try again. I'm so nervous/excited! Wish me luck!

:lachen: Girl - that's oxidation!!!! It's amazing - the color your hair is the DAY you henna, tends to be different (much scarier) than the color it is the day afterwards.

I hope your henna turns out well!!

Has anyone found the indigo at their local Indian market? Or do you have to order it on-line? Thanks for your help in advance, ladies! By the way, how did your henna color come out after a few days of oxidizing?

Well, I have to say, all my worrying was for nothin' . I LOVE MY HENNA HAIR!!! It's like this warm bronzy reddish brown, kinda like a cognac color. It's subtle but definitely there. I originally wanted a dark brown, but now I dont think so. I really like how it brightens my complexion. Thanks everyone for all the good information. I never even heard of henna before i found this site. I'll post pics soon!
