Help with patches in the hairline

I have been one of the lurkers on the website for a while. My sister introduced me to it and ever since I have been reading with my note pad jotting down all these useful tips that everyone has been contributing. Thanks to you guys my hair is not at the length where I want it to be (as yet) but it certainly on the right track. A friend of mine that I always brag about this website to asked me to get some advice for her hair. She has dreads that she colors from time to time and she wants to know how to keep the color from getting dull. She also has breakage in her hairline...for a better picture...to the sides she has bald patches and wants to know how she can regrow it.
