It took me along time to put these in and I don't want to take it down. Does anyone know how to determine hair type? And what I should use.

Its my first day of going natural.

Maybe next time freshly washed and no product. Any kind of pulling or stretching may "skew" what you're looking to find out.

Ok so just wash and let air dry? There is nothing on my hair here it's just kind of gross and unwashed ill wash it in a week. U can't tell from the root?

I'm thinking between 3c and 4a? It's not dry but it's not oily. I don't need lots of conditioners. This is confusing lol

My guess is 3b/c. This is only a guess because of the bantu knots - i.e. we'd need to see your loose hair to know for sure. Everyone's hair responds differently to products so you'll have to experiment to figure out exactly what works for you. Generally speaking the shampoos and conditioners you're using now will probably still work. If you need new products, I would start with anything that says it's "moisturizing" and "for curls". That doesn't mean those are the only types of products you can ever use, but if you don't know what to use that's a start. Look for products that you can buy in sample sizes so you don't stock up on the wrong products.

You can't really see your hair in the bantu knots. You really need to see the pattern from root to tip, freshly washed...no product.

When you wash your hair again...take a picture and post it.

You can't tell from the root. The hair has to be washed and airdry w/o any manipulation to determine hair type.

I agree with what everyone else says. My hair with product appears to be a 3 when I'm really a 4. But it isn't a cliche- hair typing really doesn't help much when it comes to caring for your hair. The "Aha!" moment didn't come for me until I found out my hairs porosity and how to combat it. Once I mastered that the rest was a cake walk. :)

Very pretty
I can't tell from the root, but like the others said
- Wash
- Leave some conditioner in your hair so it won't frizz
- Air dry
Don't touch your hair while it air dries.

Congrats on your BC

Ok so does this hair type thing matter when it comes to hair care? Are we pretty much all in the same boat? I wanted to get tips from different people here but was thinking should I take my hairs needs into account?

Nothing.

When it comes to care, what matters is porosity, density (how much hair you have on your head) and texture (strand size, not curl pattern).

I have a "hair twin" on another board who has the exact same porosity, density and texture as my hair, except she's 3b/c and I'm 4a/3c. Despite the curl pattern difference, we almost use the exact same products because of the attributes I listed.

Hair type - the number/letter system IMO is just for fun, it has no basis in how to actually care for your hair.

It's type pretty!!

Looks like a 3 something, between a B and C maybe. I'll tell you what I tell EVERYONE...sometimes your hair has to grow out a lot before you can attempt to try and type your hair.

So don't make yourself crazy with it. What you should be doing is figuring out what your hair likes and what it doesn't. For example mine thrives best when I use butters and oils and products that have less chemical filler ingredients and more natural things.

Your first day? Gon girl ;) Not sure about the type, but let us see the results of those knots! Pretty hair and color.

That's after I washed it before I put the oil in it. It's still damp so I don't think u can really tell? I will knot it again once it's less damp

Have you cut off your relaxed hair yet? IMHO your hair looks relaxed with just a bit of new growth at the root. Your roots look like a silky 4a...but your hair is still wet so its hard to tell.

Or maybe it's because the picture is so close?

No I never relaxed, but I used lots of heat and bleache it, so the curl form of it was lost. Yea there is new growth, I cut off the hair I couldnt save..the hair that stopped responding to treatment.

Ok here's a dry little piece. Can you tell density and porosity by looking at hair?
Sorry about all these questions btw guys
