Hi, my daughter has thin hair and really wants to grow out her hair. What regimen do others with thin hair that live in a very hot humid environment keep?

Well, my hair isn't really thin but it isn't thick either. I live in NC and it can get hot and hella humid here too.

I would start her off on a scalp stimulating shampoo and conditioner. Since her hair is thin, it wouldn't hurt to have something stimulating her scalp to maintain healthy hair growth. I know elasta qp makes a nice one. It is a purple color and is very cooling on the scalp. It helps increase body to give the illusion of thicker hair. The conditioner also helps stimulate the scalp and helps provide moisture to the hair. I would also make sure I have a nice protein conditioner. Protein helps plump up the hair strands which can give her more body as well. Try aubrey organics gpb, elasta qp breakage control serum, motions cpr and nexxus keraphix. The key is going to be using products that thoroughy moisturize to help prevent frizz disasters in the humidity without weighing her hair completely down. You can also look into the Nexxus hydrasleek line. It is a moisturizing conditioner and shampoo that is designed to maintain a sleek look without weighing the hair down. For moisturizers, try something creamy like ors olive oil and just use small dabs throughout her hair. Using a light weight silicone serum also helps prevent frizz. I like the neutrogena triple moisture serum. I just use a dime sized amount so it doens't weigh my hair down but gives me more frizz protection and some shine. For leave-in conditioners try sunsilk 24/7 creams. You can find these in any drugstore and they are cheap. They can also double as daily moisturizers. The one for frizz control is green I belive. I also use the purple and pink one. Since her hair is thin, don't use hard brushes. Use a wide toothed comb to help prevent breakage. I usually use my shower comb for day to day styling.

As far as styling goes, I would rollerset her hair using a lightweight mousse. Nexxus has a nice mousse that gives soft hold and lots of body. At night you can just wrap it down or cross wrap it. Cross wrapping is easier on the temples. Even when my hair frizzes up, I still can get my smoother look back by adding just a touch of leave -in moisturizer and wrapping it flat at night. Depending on how long her hair is, you can also buy her an octopus clip which she can use to put her hair into a easy bun. I keep one in my purse just in case my curls fall. Also look into those soft headbands which can help smooth frizzy edges. You can find these in packs of 2-4 at Kmart or even dollar general.
