It's PEELING! Oh no, I'm not kidding, it's coming off in sheets just like a caucasian's sunburned back!

I only saw it in my hairline and had my friend check the rest of my scalp for me. I spent TWO hours getting it out and I just washed my hair YESTERDAY!!

I have had these cornrows in my hair for almost three weeks. The lady that did them for me began parting my hair and said that I had that sh*t. I'm like WTF is she talking about. She begins scratching my scalp and saying that she can't remember the name of it but when she went to cosmetology school she learned about it and for me not to worry because it wasn't as bad as her moms.

So I asked her repeatedly to elaborate and between her and my friend that introduced me to her, I just kept getting the run around which only had me more upset. If you don't know what you're talking about..... I asked her how did she know I had whatever it was she was diagnosing me with and how on earth do I get rid of it. She said it just 'looks' different than dandruff and to use Sulfur 8.

I have been using Sulfur 8 and washing my hair once a week and deep conditioning with cholestorol for an hour. I noticed that my hairline seemed really tight and shiny the other day, not the same texture as the rest of my scalp and not as many folicle holes as the majority of my scalp.

I have been Surging for the past three weeks and I must say I am diggin this stuff right about now. I'll rave in another post after I am certain this growth isn't just a spurt and will actually continue. I use all three products to prevent dryness. I seriously don't think it is product buildup because like I said, I just washed my hair yesterday. Also, I took a section of it and tried to dissolve it with water. It got 'cleaner' but that's it, it is some sort of solid matter that is probably a layer of skin. Last week when I washed, just the water alone seemed too hot for my scalp and it was sensitive to the touch. Same thing yesterday, but I just figured this is what I have to endure to get this kind of growth. Darn near 3/4" already and I usually only get 1/2" in a month, IF that!

I did a search and saw some interesting posts. I don't think I have eczema, but I could be wrong. What do I really need to do to stop this and get my hairline to fill in? I know it was kinda sparse before the braids and I can't really tell what's going on right now because it's in cornrows. It's all fuzzy.

So please, SOMEONE tell me what this is and what to do. I had to calm myself down from the initial disgust just to deal with this 'situation.' Now I want to make sure it doesn't happen again.

I think she was talking about psoriasis(pronounced:sore-eye-a-sis).It's a scalp disorder. Maybe check a dermatologist.

Try a hot oil treatment prior to shampooing your hair. I know that some people prefer to do this after a shampoo. I had the same problem and this has help alot. I part the hair and place the oil between the parts. I let it sit on the hair 20 minutes with a plastic cap before I shampoo. Some people like to use olive oil as a pre-shampoo treatment. I use Queene Helene (Jojoba or Cholestrol). Just follow the directions. I hope this will help you.

You should go to a dermatologist to get the proper diagnosis & treatment before it gets worse.

i agree that you should see a dermatologist for the proper diagnosis. i've had psoriasis since high school, but it took MANY dermatologists to get the proper treatment for it.

if this is something that just popped up, i'm more inclined to think that it's an allergic reaction to something that you're using, more like a dermatitis, which can be easily treated.

see your doctor because alot of scalp disorders look alike but need to be treated differently... let us know!!

Wouldn't you know my insurance just ran out...

I checked the web for psoriasis symptoms and remedies. I have other lesions on my skin that first began with a deep scratch on my back shoulder over a month ago that WON'T heal! Now, I have these pink spots on my arms and upper hips (total of 3).

Since it is a 'sudden' condition, I'm truly hoping it's just an allergic reaction. For my scalp, maybe it is the combination of Sulfur 8 and the Surge. For my arms and upper hip, maybe it's because I had stopped taking ALL of my supplements for two months and my immune system is weak. I just don't know what I am going to do.

Thanks ladies for the suggestions and the hope.

Before you go to a Dr do a hot oil treatment before you wash your hair but do it for two days in a row and DO NOT put the Surge on your scalp and see if it clears. I had the samething. Big flakes that were easy to come up and I washed my hair two days in a row without spraying my scalp with surge and it went away.

The Surge is sticky and I don't know if we are using to much or just got a bad bottle. I haven't used the surge for almost a week and my scalp is back to normal

Hope it help you

I think i have something very similar. Are you having horrible shedding too? I read that scalp psoriasis can cause you to lose hair and shed really badly. I am experiencing this right now. I just brought surge to maybe help me with the shedding..i hope i didn't make it worst b/c i used it already. Good luck let me know what you find out.

If you are having shedding like foxybronx then you are not experiencing what I did. I just had a lot of white flakes. I had more white flakes on my bathroom sink than on the ground outside.

But that is the only bad thing I can say about Surge because it stopped my breakage.

Lisa,

No, I don't have any shedding that I know of, I am in cornrows right now. I guess I will be doing a couple of hot oil treatments this weekend. I'm praying that works. I love the accelerated growth, I just don't want any scalp problems accompanying it! I stopped and thought about what I have done differently because it did not initially give me problems. I think I have added too much junk to my bottle! So, it's all my fault and I won't add anymore unnecessary stuff to my bottle again. I may stick to the formula with a little sage and rosemary. No more DMSO!

As far as these other lesions on my body, I think once my vitamins kick in, my immune system will get back to normal and I'll heal quickly like I used to.

Oh yes, does any one else's Surge feel/look soapy after applying? Just curious because it was mentioned that I may have a bad batch and I want a clue as to how I could possibly distinguish a good one from a bad one.

Thanks for helping me!

I was loving my Surge too but I haven't had any flaking since I've been off and it's been about a week now. (But I was also under a lot of stress at the end of the semester!)

Right around the edges where I had most of my flaking my Surge did have a soapy feel but I can't remember if my first bottle did this.

I think I will try my surge again and see if my flakes come back

Maybe I'll try it once a day at first because I hate to give it up entirely.

I have had a similar problem with my hair for years. I went to a dermatologist and he gave me a tar shampoo, head and shoulders shampoo to use. And they both dried my hair out really bad. It wasn't until about a year or so ago that I discovered KeraCare dandruff shampoo and conditioner. It worked wonders for me. However, I should mention that my dandruff problem was way out of control. Because I would get dark marks on my forhead that was pelling skin. And to make matters worse having this problem stunted my hair growth too. I still use KeraCare even now because it is the only shampoo that I have ever found that really worked for me.

I don't know if it was Surge or not but my daughter had a dry area on the hairline above her ear and in the fold of her ear. The 1st thing I thought of was that she washed up and didn't get all the soap off but it's over 2 wks now it and there is still some remnants (very little). It looked similar to Bodecia's (sp?) surge pic.

No more Surge for us.

When I first used Surge about 6 months ago I also had flaking around the hairline and ears. The back of my scalp was also sensitive. I was only spraying once a day or once every other day. I stopped the Surge for a few days, continued daily rinses with water only because I didn't want the fragrance or other ingredients in other products to exacerbate the condition. After a few days I started praying the Surge again lightly, once daily and sealed with jojoba oil. I've had no problems since. I'm sorry to hear about your problem and hope it is resolved soon.

I don't know if this is the same thing you are experiencing, but Boadicea's post seems like a clue to halt the Surge, go to her pictures, and she has a few that shows the damage it caused, see if it looks like yours-

Holy Cow!! No more Surge for me!
I had previously been using Surge (some times once a day, some times twice) and the other day when I washed my hair, it felt like someone was trying to burn off the back and sides of my ear and neck with a blow torch whenever the water would run on it.

The skin there felt really dry and flakey. I hadn't used Surge for two days, then. Today the whole area is irritated, peeling, scaly and dry. It hurts like no tomorrow.

I won't be using Surge again any time soon. I guess it turned out to be too drying.
