Help! "Washer's ear"...?

My ear has been stuffy all night. I have gotten NO sleep because of it.

I have tried...

peroxide.
warm rag
blow drying it.
yawning
plygging my nose and breathing out

And it is still plugged. It feels like I have been on an airplane and its only in one ear. I washed last night and I know that this is what it is. I used to co-wash every 3 days but I had to stop due to this problem. The thing is, it would go away after an hour or two or after me blow drying.

How long should I wait until I call my doctor?

Any other things you guys think I should do?

Go to your doctor. If you have swimmer's ear, you can do permanent damage if it is left untreated. Don't wait until you get a shooting pain in your ear. This is the voice of experience talking - I have a little hearing loss in my right ear from swimmer's ear 5 years ago.

Just lay/tilt your head down on the side you want the water to drain, and it will work itself out of the ear on it's own. I usually have to lay/tilt my head down for 10-20 mins before anything comes out

Ive had that happen to me several times, one time I had to get antibiotics, other times I poured Peroxide in my ear, and tilted my head and left it for 30 seconds or so, it feels strange, but doing that several times cleared it up

Oh yeah this is true too. I had swimmer's ear OMG don't want to experience that again. If you can't get the water out in time it may develop into an ear infection

this was me the other day, in the end i used olive oil in my ears for three days and got it syringed by the nurse :ohwell:

I am suffering from something similar now. I was diagnosed by my ENT as having Meniere's disease, an accumulation of fluid in the ear, I attribute this to cw daily. I go back in 30 days for a follow up.

yep, definitely call up the doctor, preferably an ear nose and throat specialist. they'll do the peroxide thing to loosen up the wax in your ear, let that sit and bubble fr 5 minutes, and suck it out with a neat vacuum thing.

shoot, you think you have it bad... i suffered with the stuffy ear thing for years, and had no idea what it was until i went to the doc. last month... i thought i was losing my hearing prematurely :ohwell:

I used to have that problem all the time. One day I happened to be looking at my cotton balls and decided to use them as ear plugs. Ever since I have not had ANY water get into my ear. I am really bad at washing my hair in to shower and water dripping into my ear. Try stuffing one cotton ball into each ear next time. Don't stuff too far though.

I hope your ear gets better soon. :)

This happened to me about two months ago. I was in incredible pain, and i could not sleep at all. My bf bought me Debroux Ear Cleaning kit from Walmart. I used it for about a full day, following the directions, and it gradually cleared. This kit worked well, because i tried all of the other things you mentioned, and it did not work.

good luck :)

Hi, you guys will think im crazy but whenever I diveand have the feeling of having water and when I feel the pressure it feels like a weight on the side of my jaw and what I do is light a cigarette and put the side where the filter is in your ear and let the ciggy pump the pressure out . It never failed me. i only do it while im laying down on my back. If youve never done it, have someone by your side to assist you.

I know it sounds crazy but its an old trick my auntie did for me.
